Welcome to dickblick
"Irojiten" is the Japanese expression for "color encyclopedia." Available in 90 colors, these beautifully crafted pencils are grouped by subtle color ranges into nine different "editions" and then published in unique paper color editions containing 30 pencils each. The three editions per set include Pale, Vivid, and Deep tones.
The editions have an outstanding look and feel and give the impression of being a high-end “color encyclopedia.” The exquisite enamel finish of the pencils, the packaging, and the high quality of the product have made Irojiten an all-time classic in Japan. These sets are perfect for the artist as well as the collector.

Comments about Tombow Irojiten Color Pencils:
Absolutely do not lay down enough color for me. If you press harder you degrade the paper. Way too waxy for most uses. Back to Prismacolor or Blick. I wanted a quality pencil to color hand-made cards.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Best pencils Love them
Doesn't have the color array that Prismacolor has but they are two different types of pencils. These are a harder pencil than the prismas. These are so bright and vivid. Such a beautiful pencil with a smooth lay down. Everyone is different tho. I suggest you buy indivual pencils rather than getting the dictionaries right away. Also I suggest you get one of the vivid, dull, or deep toned pencils to try rather than the pale or very pale pencils to test because they are exactly what they say they are and won't give you a true picture of the bright and vivid color. These are my first favorite go to pencil then Prismacolor are next. I've included a coloring page that I did completely with Irojiten's and only Irojiten's. Hopefully it gives you an idea of how they look. The artist is Cristina McAllister from the book Treasury 2.

WOW!!!! WHAT A DEAL!!!!
I RECEIVED MY COLORED PENCIL ORDER AND HAD TO TRY THEM OUT RIGHT AWAY. THE IROJITEN COLORED PENCILS LAID DOWN THE MOST VIVID COLOR AND THE COVERAGE WAS BEAUTIFUL. I COLOR VERY DETAILED PORTRAIT PICTURES AND I LOVE THE WAY THE IROJITEN PENCILS DONT CRUMBLE VERY BAD AND THEY DONT SMUDGE OR COME OFF ON THE SIDE OF MY HAND TO MIX WITH COLOR IN ANOTHER AREA. I CANT THINK OF ANYTHING BAD TO SAY ABOUT THESE PENCILS AND I WILL BE ORDERING MORE OF THEM VERY SOON.

I bought several pencils to add to my growing collection. They are so easy to use for many different projects. They sharpen so well, which is not always the case with other coloring pencils. I don't have a single negative to say about the Tombow Irojiten pencils.
Great Different Pencils

My favorite, go-to pencils are the Faber Castell Polychromos, however, if you are interested in adding some more color variety to your stash I recommend getting these pencils. These pencils have some unique colors. They are a little harder but go down smooth. Love these!
Nice, solid pencils
from New Jersey
These are really good if you want a hard pencil. A lot of art quality pencils are difficult to keep a point on and are difficult for detailed work. These are hard pencils that can be sharpened to a fine point. There's also a nice variety of colors and they aren't as expensive as other brands.

I like the these pencils. They go on smoothly and the colors are an addition to my pencil colloction. They blend nicely. The pencil boxes are unique and very handy. Blick's service was quick and well packaged.
These are really nice hard pencils
from Verona, NJ
These are really good hard-core pencils. A lot of art pencils have soft oil based cores or if they are hard they're sort of chalky or too waxy. These give a nice solid color but can be sharpened to a fine point.

Must get more of them
While a harder core that makes precise lines, they still blend well. Keeps a sharper line. Lovely colors. Using them with other softer pencils.
Tombow Irojiten Colored Pencils are beautifully crafted inside and out. These richly colored, wax-based, pencils allow artists to achieve smooth blending and layers of color without waxy build-up.
