Lacking in Quality
By MN Art Teacher
Comments about I Can Fly DVDs:
This video was produced in 2006 and fails to meet my expectations for a quality classroom video. The host (noticed the host is related to the director – should have hired a real actor!) is awkward and makes little effort to define the purpose of the film before, during, or at the end of the choppy sequences. I was hoping to hear more artist testimony about the creative process or finding inspiration yet the artists featured (Faith Ringgold, Jacob Laurence...) say about one sentence each regarding their work. Ironic considering that a considerable amount of time is dedicated to the interview of one, dazed-looking child who rambles on about how she likes to paint rainbows. The transitions are a bit sloppy and amateurish, far removed from the contemporary video productions that my elementary students are used to. The nail in the coffin for me was the strange, psychedelic vintage (and sexist) cartoon clip spliced just before a toddler-aged child loudly sings "mary had a little lamb" with a toy keyboard. I feel this film grossly underestimates the aesthetic sensibilities of children and should be pulled from the Blick catalog. I will return this and seek a refund as I would be embarrassed to watch with students. Skip I Can Fly and pick a different option.

Great Educational Video
from Deland, FL
This video is great for my elementary art classes. It is jam packed with great information and yet with the inclusion of the children in the video, very easy to grasp.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
