This is a stunning volume that introduces the reader to the subject of oil painting. The book assumes no previous knowledge of this exciting medium, and covers everything you need to know to get started. This is a serious art book for serious artists, designed to both inspire and teach beginners, and to provide experienced painters with a solid introduction to oils. The rigorous text is supported with full-color photographs, and clear descriptions and step-by-step instructions are provided throughout. The book culminates in three step-by-step projects, giving the reader the opportunity to produce three fantastic oil paintings of his or her own. Many of the author’s own beautifully executed works are exhibited throughout the book, which cannot fail to inspire readers, and the book’s predominantly practical, hands-on approach to the subject means they can pick up a paintbrush and start painting immediately from page one! Stephen Rose attended the Medway College of Art, the Cheltenham College of Art, The British School in Rome, and the Royal Academy, where he earned his diploma in Fine Art. He has won numerous prestigious awards, including the Royal Academy Painting Prize in 1984, and in 1992 was made a Brother of the Art Workers Guild in Bloomsbury, London. Rose’s work has been exhibited at the Summer Exhibition, the Mall Galleries, and the Royal Portrait Society exhibition.
