Ideal for use with encaustic paints, the Hot Wax Pen is a woodburning tool that can be used alone or with Enkaustikos Hot Tool attachments such as Pen Points and Hot Brushes (sold separately). The tool maintains the molten state of the paint until you apply it to your substrate, allowing you the option to work slowly and meticulously — or quickly and spontaneously.
Four tips are included — a chisel edge tip, a mini palette knife tip, a pointed stylus tip, and a blunted bullet tip. They allow you to create a variety of effects. Or, as mentioned above, try the tool with Encaustikos Pen Points and Hot Brushes, which are specifically designed for encaustic work.
Because the temperature of the Hot Wax Pen can exceed the melting point of encaustic paint, it must be used with a temperature regulator to ensure the working temperature is maintained at 200° F. Temperature regulators are sold separately.
