Hosho is a traditional, high-quality kozo paper, strong and absorbent. It does not shrink or tear easily, making it a good paper for woodblock or lino printing.
Sheets measure approximately 19" × 24" (approximately 48 cm × 61 cm), and are not sized, with deckle edges. Weight is 85 gsm. Acid-free.
Handling Charge — When ordering sheets of paper or board larger than 18” x 24” in quantities of less than 10, a $3.00 per order handling fee applies. Paper or boards may be assorted to reach the quantity of 10.

Hosho for printing woodcut
from Los Angeles, CA
Comments about Legion Hosho Paper:
I used this hosho paper to hand-print a woodcut. I use a wooden spoon, not a printing press, and Gamblin oil-based relief ink. This paper takes the ink nicely with minimal wetting with a spray bottle (too much and the paper will tear!). My one complaint is that it sheds fibers onto the block which must then be wiped off before another print can be made. The nice thing about it is that it is fairly thick and has a pleasing surface texture. It does, as another reviewer mentioned, have a visible grid pattern from the papermaking process. It isn't cheap but it's really quite nice. I do recommend it to anyone looking for a good printmaking paper.

I had search everywhere for specific large sizes in Lino block and HoSho paper for a personal and specific project. Dick Blick not only had these items the size I wanted, they also had more choices available that is struggled to find in the past. The prices offered were such a good deal than anywhere else I'd looked. So it even made good sense to buy despite the poor exchange rate (Canadian) to get it here. Service and delivery was very promptly, processed without a hitch and goods arrived with package intact as I requested. I have no complaints and will use Blicks again!

The paper is obviously high quality. I purchased 10 sheets. For some reason, the last of the 10 sheets had a big "X" penciled over it. I phoned them to tell them this and they immediately sent a replacement sheet at no extra charge.

Great for Block Printing
from Plymouth, MN
Hosho paper is the best for block printing, also know as relief printmaking, such as linoleum cut or wood cut block printing. In the method I use to print multi-color lino cut images, I DO NOT wet the paper before I print. There is no need to prewet the paper as long as you know how to mix your inks to the right consistency. Hosho paper prints vibrant glowing colors cleanly and with the second, third, etc., block of color it will not lift the previous color already printed on the paper even though the color on the paper is still wet. So far I have not found anything wrong with this paper except it is expensive so I use newsprint to test print! I would not recommend this paper for intaglio printing (etching) where you must prewet the paper before printing. I usually print on the slightly rougher side of the paper for the best results for my work.
Difficult but rewarding
from Oak Park, IL
I use Hosho with ink and brush to make traditional sumi paintings. Its high absorbency requires careful moisture control. This characteristic also results in tonal ranges of wide wariety and subtlety. Student Hosho is even more absorbent and difficult to control. However it is an economical paper for practice before final work on Hosho.
