I had made a mistake of buying 25 sheets of this paper without checking it first. I was fooled by the desciption into thinking it a descent low grade paper for printmaking. I knew something was wrong already when I tried to moisten the paper and it absorbed the water like a sponge. It started to wrinkle in some spots and was not at all durable like described. Since I had it cut alrady thought I would try and wait for the water to even out, but when I tried to print the paper just shredded itself when rubbed. If you want something for japanese style woodblocks this is the opposite of what you want.

Comments about Legion Hosho Paper:

I use Hosho with ink and brush to make traditional sumi paintings. Its high absorbency requires careful moisture control. This characteristic also results in tonal ranges of wide wariety and subtlety. Student Hosho is even more absorbent and difficult to control. However it is an economical paper for practice before final work on Hosho.

When I ordered this product, I was looking for a good quality paper for my final prints which are with watercolor in the Japanese style of woodblock. My review for this paper is the same as my review as the student grade of this same paper. Both papers were not sized and were very disappointing. This paper is not sized, even though it is advertised as such, so it was useless to me because every water-based mark you put down bleeds. It is also made very sloppy. I have made paper before and this paper, though handmade, is inconsistent in thickness through out the paper, sometimes with holes, and the deckled edge is beyond deckled and is very uneven and sometimes going out on an angle. The upside for me was that Dickblick was really easy to deal with and they took back the paper and sent me a refund with out any problems. They sent me another shipment of paper that was supposed to be sized and it was not, like the first batch, but again, they gave me no problems and let me return the paper with a full refund. SO, the paper is bad, but my overall experience with the company was good.
