Welcome to dickblick
The color chemists at Holbein took a decade to develop Vernét Superior Artists' Oils, with the stated objective of creating the most advanced artists' oil color ever produced. With a range of 40 remarkably strong, beautiful, and stable colors, the Vernét line is truly the dream palette of tomorrow's great masters.
Vernét's innovation lies in its technology. It differs fundamentally from other artists' oils in that the grain diameter of the pigment is roughly half the size of standard line equivalents. This produces a remarkable color depth and vibrancy. With such a fine pigment grain, light is reflected more evenly without being scattered, resulting in an almost transparent luminosity and beauty.
Made with pure, single pigments and finest-quality, refined linseed oil (the only exception being Silver White Poppy, made with poppy oil), Vernét colors offer outstanding adhesion, tinting strength, durability, smoothness, and lightfastness. They produce clean, non-muddy results when mixed.

High quality paint for special uses
By A The Beard
Comments about Holbein Vernét Superior Artists' Oil Colors:
The quality is very high and should score a 4 or 5. The Prussian blue and titanium white are especially good. But some of the other paint, like yellow ocher, are too thin to be very usefully. The paint is excellent for doing still life and careful glazing techniques. You should definitely try it if your interested in that style. The only reason I give it three stars is the price. The cost is a huge, and you aren't really supposed to use vernet with other paint.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Very smooth when painted, surprisingly thick and heavy out of the bottle. Big difference between this and regular Holbien.
A little bit goes a long way!

I bought the Sampler Set of 3 at a spur of the moment, and not knowing much about these paints I was not expecting it to be so highly pigmented, silky smooth, and very excellent at covering large portions of a suface, (I am currently using a 26" × 20" sheet of Yupo paper). Anyways I made this purchase knowing it would not be cheap but I ended up loving it anyways, my only complaint is that these paints use linseed oil, which will tend to yellow after the years go on, so I plan on buying only the Silver White (Poppy oil) in the future. If the yellowing over the years is not a concern then buy all mean buy this oil paint they are fantastic!

Vernet is the best!
from Raleigh, NN
These paints are fantastic for glazing and essential for painting in the Indirect method of classical realism which is the way I now paint. There is so much finely ground, high quality pigment in each tube you use less for a fantastic visual effect. I am so glad that Dick Blick sells this paint.

I found the cadmium yellow mixes beautifully and I need to use MUCH less paint. I havent used the other colors enough to comment on them. The price is high on these for very little paint. If you paint small great, too expensive for large canvases unless money is no object. Very good product.
The absolute oil paint

Although quite expensive, a small quantity covers a lot.I`ve tried many good brands, and Vernet is the best, believe me!

The Vernet colors are incredibly intense. I did this portrait with these three Vernet colors:1. Imidazolone Yellow2. Pyrrol Red3. Phthalo BluePlus white, ivory black and yellow ochre pale natural. The Holbein brand along with its Vernet line is extremely high level. If you want intense color go with Holbein oil colors!

I bought Indanthrene Blue; Transparent Gold Oxide and Phthalocyanine Blue. I used theIndanthrene Blue for a ceramic bowl and loved it. It's vibrant and yet soft. I used the Transparent Gold Oxide for a soft gold background. It sings. Yeah, the price is high, but for a few colors it may be worth it to grab a buyer's interest and sell a painting.
