Basic Set of 6
This set provides a great basic palette for the beginning painter or anyone interested in testing out the quality of Holbein Heavy Body Acrylics. It contains 2 oz (60 ml) tubes of Quinacridone Red, Imidazolone Lemon, Viridian Hue, Phthalo Blue (Red Shade), Mars Black, and Titanium White.
Holbein's luminous colors offer brilliance and high chroma not found in conventional pigments. Because they contain fluorescent dyes and pigments that are fugitive, this brilliance will fade and the colors will shift with exposure to ultraviolet light. The luminous color series are best suited for works that are temporary, or that are meant to be photographed and used in a digital format.
Luminous Set of 6
Six unique, luminous colors in 2 oz (60 ml) tubes are gathered in this set, which includes Luminous Rose, Luminous Opera, Luminous Red, Luminous Orange, Luminous Yellow, and Luminous Lemon.
Primary Set of 5
Ideal for color theory explorations, this set of five primary colors includes 2 oz (60 ml) tubes of Primary Magenta, Primary Yellow, Primary Cyan, Primary Black, and Primary White.

I love thes colors. Holbein hasn't been easy for me to find in my local Dick Blick stores...I had to search them out...and, boy, was it worth it. Although I primarily use Golden fluids, the colors in Holbein are simply amazing. They are a fabulous addition to my favorite palettes.

Holbein acrylic paint has beautiful colors and a brush stroke on the front of the tube is helpful to see the exact color over white.
Creamy wonderful paint
from Leonardtown, MD
This is great paint, although a bit pricy. I alternate between another brand and this one, so I could not day this is best in category. It is one of the best though, and deserves 5 stars. The line has good color choices, and very little noticeable color shift when dry. I use acrylics for collage and abstract painting.
Great unusual colors

The "Luminous" colors are bright and transparent and are terrific to use over an underpainting or incorporated within a painting. They are bright but do not overtake the painting.

Beware of bleeding!
from Springfield, IL
I paint solid color blocks in my work, so I realize that the issue I had may not apply to everyone. I recently worked on a piece using black, white, and red, where the red color was Holbein's Cadmium Red. I absolutely loved the consistency and the fact that I didn't need to use multiple coats to get the color vibrancy that I wanted. However, when I went over the piece with varnish using a brush, some of the dye from the red traveled and turned my white areas pink. I've never had this happen before, even with student-grade paints, so I was surprised that an artist-grade paint would have this problem.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with this color. It sounds like the paint, though touch dry, was insufficiently cured when the varnish was applied. There are a few possible causes, and our Product Specialists are happy to troubleshoot. Just call 1-800-933-2542 (8am-5:30pm M-F) or email email@example.com.
