Holbein ranks as one of the world's finest lines of professional oil colors. The formulation of each color is modified individually to compensate for the inherent differences in the working characteristics of pigments. The result is an even consistency across the entire palette of color.
Holbein maintains its quality standards by test inspection of pigment purity, color tone, applicability and adhesion, physical stability, light stability, thermo-stability, and anti-bacterial stability. Pigments are ground from three to five times as necessary to achieve a universally consistent viscosity. The manufacturing process in each of the preparation, mixing, grinding, adjustment, and filling stages is monitored by reference to optimum quality standards.
Foundation Oil Colors
These colors contain a high percentage of opaque pigment suspended in linseed oil. They provide a barrier between the painting and the primed surface. They are perfect for underpainting and texturizing the surface prior to painting.

The finest indeed!

Comments about Holbein Artists' Oil Colors:
The best quality of Holbein oil paints is its texture. It is like painting with butter, and over several years of painting portraits, landscapes and plein air painting, Holbein has never varied it its quality. Often, I have tried other artist's favorites, and Holbein always is superior. Colors are varied and beautiful. Never have I squeezed onto my pallett and seen separation of oil and pigment, as with other brands.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Dries sufficiently in 1-2 days to paint over without lifting or mixing. Comes in variety of useful shades. Nice consistency. Goes on smoothly. Not too thick.

I like certain colors from Holbein. I like to buy some specific colors from this brand because other brand dont make it. also the quality is pretty great for price. I wish they sell big tubes.. I only see whites and black colors in big tubes..

Holbein oils are some of the best oil paints I've ever used and I've used most all of the oil paint products out there in the market.

I was given about 30 tubes of Holbein paint by a retired artist and am so glad ... I now know the world of amazing colors available through this brand. I paint landscapes and wildlife and western subjects. The colors and the consistency of Holbein paint have opened up a whole new world in my work. The only difficulty is ordering things online ... whether it's clothes or paint, you never know exactly what you've bought till you hold it in your hand.
My favorite Brand

I love this brand of oils! I can't always justify buying them with my budget. Still, it's great to have them in the paintbox when I'm working on something special.
jAPAN DOES IT RIGHT

The more I use Holbein oil paints, the more I am becoming an adherent to their brand name. Their pigments are superior in quality, consistency and flow. It is very disconcerting to buy expensive oil paints and watch oil run out of the tube instead of pigment when you squeeze the tube. Not so with Holbein--they produce an excellent product.
So far so good
from Charlottesville, VA
I purchased three 20ml tubes of Holbein paints and so far have used cadmium red and naples yellow. I like that the 20ml is on the small side for oil tubes. I don't use a lot of cadmium red and it often gets hard before I can finish a tube so this smaller size is a great value. It seems like a solid product with nice packaging. They are more liquid than other paints I've used including winsor newton and especially highly pigmented oils like Old Holland. They are very easy to work with.
