As someone who prefers to work with very saturated, straight-forward colors layered under (or accented with) oil pastels (Sennelier), this is my weapon of choice. I have tried other paints, and nothing comes close to the clean brightness of Holbein Acryla. Like all acrylics/acrylic hybrids, these paints dry very quickly, so keep that it mind - but that it also a benefit of this medium - you have to know what you want and just go with it. The color range is excellent (at least for my taste), and the prices here are very competitive. Holbein is one of the very best brands out there, and this product is no exception.

My wife talked me into trying these paints. I have always worked in casein and and oil, so a combination of "acrylic" and "gouache"sounded like the polar opposite of anything that I would use. However, I have found that this paint has a quality that reminds me of casein more than traditional gouache, but its color changes very little as it dries, and isn't prone to lifting off earlier layers of paint. It can lay down very precise , clean lines while still having enough workability to soften edges. I discovered, quite unintentionally, that after several months, the paint surface will not be altered by contact with a little water.

I'm currently working primarily on small paintings on paper and have found that small amounts of this gouache go a long way. A very nice bonus.

This gouache is superb-- it finishes off exactly like traditional gouache, but it's tiny amount of acrylic binder let's the artist layer. It never "picks up" when you put one color over another color.

Would never go back to any other Gouache. This is Holbein, dude.

Holbein advertises that this product dries to a "water resistant" surface. WRONG. With a damp cloth, I lightly wiped a painting done 8 months ago and the paint came off. I had layered so the paint was coming off from itself. Knowing this up front, an artist can avoid problems. The paint itself is nice and creates a very dull, handsome surface. The colors offered are great too.
