Best Gouache on the Market
from San Luis Obispo, CA
Comments about Holbein Acryla Gouache:
You will not find a better gouache than Holbein's. You can't leave a streak in it even if you try. I use mainly black gouache, and two coats produce a perfect matte, opaque finish with no brush strokes. The finish does mar, however. You still have to be careful with it just like regular gouache. But this is as good as gouache gets! I'm now trying the Carmine color, and it is beautiful!

An excellent gouache
from St. Charles, MD
A worthy addition to any painter's toolbox, can work as an acrylic straight out of the tube (extremely overpriced for this usage) but excels when thinned with water and layered. Extremely smooth application, wonderfully heavy pigment load.

Just made the color chart and the colors are very vibrant and opage.

I love this paint! It mixes well with my watercolor gouache without ruining the color. Layers well too! I can't wait to buy more!

This is my favorite paint
By Cali Artist
from Hanford, CA
I have used different brands of acrylic, watercolor, and gouache over the years. I just invested in this paint last month and I LOVE IT!!! This is my absolute favorite paint. The colors are creamy, consistently smooth, and bright. I use a lot of thin layers and gray down my colors. The grayed or toned down mixes are just gorgeous. I almost can't make muddy colors. I never have trouble with my previous thin layers lifting. I don't have to use a workable fixative. Even better- the lid goes on easily with no paint crust. My last long term brand of paint had annoying lids that wouldn't thread easily and built up a nasty thick paint crust- which gets in the way of creativity, especially if you spill paint because of that problem.I also use the paint in thinned washes with my dip pens and it makes gorgeous lines. For me, there are no negatives about this paint.

Great Intro to Gouache
By Shelby the Beginner

I just started using gouache and originally purchased a student starter set from a different brand and I was not impressed. I decided to upgrade and purchased holbein. I was impressed by the quality of the colors and the coverage it provided. It is a great paint to use if you are just starting off with gouache. I will purchase it again.

it's love in the first degree

I was looking for something that was the opacity of acrylic paint but the ease of use of watercolor. After not having as much experience with a lot of different supplies since I'm still kind of a beginner with painting, I found this magical substance. I have already bought 40+ colors and am using them religiously. I tried out another brand and the color selection was not even remotely as good so it didn't justify the minimal price difference. I will keep buying these whenever my tubes run out. I am even looking to finish out my collection within the next couple weeks. For reference, I use these on 140 lb mixed media paper but it also works nicely on the watercolor papers that I have. I really love that you can layer the colors without them mixing together or messing each other up - something that I didn't love about regular gouache.

I'm a beginner with Gouache, but I'm really glad I bought Holbein. The colors I bought are absolutely gorgeous and the quality of the paint is great! I would definitely buy again.
These are nice for a matte, opaque finish. The colour selection is huge, which is great because they dry really quickly. I love using these for small paintings on canvas and works on paper.
