Holbein has created a unique and versatile product for the decorative and fine artist. It can be used as a traditional underpainting on all surfaces, including paper, cloth, many canvases, wood, stone, and primed metal. It also acts as an extremely opaque and ultra-matte finish acrylic paint medium. Finally, it’s a fantastic acrylic paint.
Holbein Colored Gesso is highly pigmented, with an extremely smooth texture. It can be mixed with any acrylic paint or medium and finishes to a matte surface. It may be overpainted with water-based or oil-based colors or pastels. Available in a full spectrum of beautiful colors.

Great product ! I would buy it again.

Comments about Holbein Acryla Colored Gesso:
I like starting out a painting on a mid tone background. It helps to make the painting Process go faster. If my Painting has a lot of green in it I use the red gesso and let small amounts show through next to the green . The gold gesso is fun to use when painting Christmas decorations. It is great to use when painting fish if you want to jazz it up. My next painting will be of fall leaves I can't wait to see the bright orange leaves with small amounts of the blue gesso showing through. What a great product! thank you Holbein !
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I love my gold gesso and it came early!
I love starting out with gold gesso on my canvas , the paint flows!
from Space Coast Florida
This gesso is a beautiful true gold, not the darker antique or the lighter almost-yellow color. It goes on very smoothly and dries quickly. One coat is typicaly sufficient; however, I had one small canvas that must have been drier because it seemed to suck the gesso into it more, so I had to add another coat. So far, I've only used the gesso with acrylics but will try with oil soon. Yes, it's pricey, but if you want a special finish for a painting, as I did, the cost is worth it.

I use the Gesso Red Ochre A66 Hilbein Acrylics as a primer and under layer for sizing and Gold leafing because the surface has excellent tooth for my aplications and dry brush texturing. It drys fast and seals very well.

Very high quality
By Marion the painter
from Los Angeles
Originally I thought the price was a bit high for such small quantity. But based on the high pigment content, the quality is excellent. I mixed a very small amount of the tinted gesso with white gesso and the pigment still dried extremely dark and the color was very rich.

Love this Holbein Colored gesso!
from Carrboro, NC
While all the colors have excellent coverage and consistency, the metallics are really the ones that have changed the way I paint. I have a tendency to leave white areas of canvas and then have to go back in to cover them. Using the colored gesso first eliminates that problem and gives a whole different look to my collage paintings as I work on them. The metallics look really rich and cover beautifully. Must have for mixed media artists!

Best colored gesso there is
By Napa Artist
from Napa, CA
This brand of colored gesso has a nice fluid consistency yet it is richly pigmented and opaque at the same time that even one layer of it can be sufficient. Texture is smooth and very easy to apply with a brush and leaves very little brushstrokes behind. It dries to a very matte, opaque ground with a refined tooth. It works great if you need a consistently toned, opaque ground to paint on. I highly recommend it.
