Great quality and cheap
from San Marcos, CA
Comments about Hardboard Panels:
I have bought these hardboard panels several times. I buy the larger 16"x20" sizes and have the hardware store cut in half to my custom 10"x16" Golden Rectangle sizes. They come with a protective finish, but I also gesso or apply GAC 100 for an extra protective coat. Zero warping, perfect for oil (or acrylic with extra coat). Dick Blick is so good about shipping. Never any problems.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great collage surface
By collage demon
These boards are cheap and never warp even when painted on both sides. I use them for collage and mixed media projects as well as a surface to tape down paper or unstretched canvas to paint on. Lightweight enough to cut down on shipping art out but heavy enough to prevent warping even in humid conditions. #sweepstakes

Great Acrylic Support
By Ronnie Rembrandt
from Westmont, IL
Great support for acrylic painting. I like to buy the untempered panels and coat them with gesso myself. These are high quality materials. My only wish would be that they had this size (24" x 30") for sale in the Wheaton store.

Wish the stickers on these would peel more easily
The stickers on these panels damage the finish when you peel them off.
I like it but I hate the sticker on it
from Durham NC
I use these for taping down my watercolors and they hold up nicely for that. I also will use them as a nice flat surface for sketching but mainly for watecolor's. My biggest pet peeve with these is the dumb sticker that's on every ... single... one. And its not like some small sticker its huge. You cannot get it off without living this terrible sticky residue. So you have to leave it. On some you can just flip over but on a couple of these that's not an option because the other side is textured. If the sticker doesn't bother your OCD as it does mine then this is a total winner. I would give at least 4 stars maybe even 5 if not for the sticker. Bottom line the product does work and the price is very reasonable. But i ordered the product not a sticker.
These panels are working perfectly for me.
I am using an acrylic technique on these panels that also requires water. I gesso the panels before use. So far I have not experienced any warping at all. The panels also work great as backing for Bristol or other such panels that do warp. I am pleased and will definitely be purchasing more.
I would not buy this product again!
from Chehalis, WA.
This hardboard panel is a very low quality! Too much time, work and money to prime it. Warps when primed. I would recommend the Dick Blick panels over the hardboard panels! Do not waste your money on this product!

Merchant response: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on these panels. It's true that this value-priced, untempered hardboard is not as resistant to warping as a tempered panel, and we're sorry if this is not what you expected. Please know that whenever you're considering trying out an unfamiliar surface, our Product Information Team is happy to discuss the product's characteristics as they would relate to your particular technique. Product Specialists are available weekdays from 8am to 5:30pm CST at 1-800-933-2542 or firstname.lastname@example.org, and they'll be glad to help!
Ok for the price
Priming only one side caused it to warp . This seemed to be corrected by priming the back-side too. Then I added a Gesso with pumice, coarse grain and am working on a piece now. It's much more flexible than pre-primed hardboard, and it's lighter. It probably will need some framing on the back to keep it rigid enough for display. Alone it is probably too light and flexible not to warp. For a less heavy, more flexible support this is a good value. And it has no oils in the glue if you're worried about seepage. I'm still experimenting with hardboards. If the others turn out to have negative qualities, I would definitely return to these.
MDF vs Birch
from Rockville, MD
This was an experiment. Had to sandpaper (a lot) and seal with a coat of PVC before painting. Like low cost, but will take most testing before I decide. For simple mounting of acrylic paper works with PVA glue, it seems to work well.
Great for Watercolor Papers

We use for Watercolor classes - perfect size for taping down 2 9 x 12 pieces of watercolor paper to work on two projects at once - letting one dry while working on the other. Great Deal.
