Comments about Hardboard Panels:
Priming only one side caused it to warp . This seemed to be corrected by priming the back-side too. Then I added a Gesso with pumice, coarse grain and am working on a piece now. It's much more flexible than pre-primed hardboard, and it's lighter. It probably will need some framing on the back to keep it rigid enough for display. Alone it is probably too light and flexible not to warp. For a less heavy, more flexible support this is a good value. And it has no oils in the glue if you're worried about seepage. I'm still experimenting with hardboards. If the others turn out to have negative qualities, I would definitely return to these.

MDF vs Birch
from Rockville, MD
This was an experiment. Had to sandpaper (a lot) and seal with a coat of PVC before painting. Like low cost, but will take most testing before I decide. For simple mounting of acrylic paper works with PVA glue, it seems to work well.
Great for Watercolor Papers
By Terri the WineLady

We use for Watercolor classes - perfect size for taping down 2 9 x 12 pieces of watercolor paper to work on two projects at once - letting one dry while working on the other. Great Deal.
Will do the job
By Jim the "old dude"

They will do the job. As noted in another review they have a sticker stuck on the board that peals the cover off when removed. They are great weight for travel. As far as price, they are better than buying a whole sheet at the lumber yard.
The Perfect Surface
By Landscape Lou
from Gatesville, Texas
I paint acrylic landscapes, mostly, so I find this is my favorite surface. I use a small to medium roller to prepare the surface in various colors/textures of thin gesso, making it a versatile, nearly indestructible surface for most of my projects.

Nice alternative to stretched canvas. Smooth surface is interesting to work on.
100% Satisfaction guaranteed!
from Muskegon, MI
Indeed, there was 100% satisfaction when these panels were opened and checked. Not only did they arrive in great condition, but working on them was like butter - - smooth.
very good panels

What can be said about a wood panel? Similar panels can be available at many hobby or hardware stores. But these were convenient for me to order, since such things aren't available at the very general-purpose local hobby store. They took a while to arrive, but they were adequately packed and in good condition when they arrived. I would order these again, though I'm hoping they'll last a long time.
