Smooth and Sturdy
Comments about Hardboard Panels:
Used with gesso primer these make great painting surfaces, particularly for classes. Buying in bulk while it is on sale means being able to have smooth, sturdy surfaces in different sizes for classes, plein aire, and studies at a very affordable price.

I used these by inserting them over closet shelves - they extended the shelves and created a great flat file storage. Flat file storage usually cost a fortune.

sturdy backing for art paper and projects
from Worceser, MA
I bought a couple of sizes to back my watercolor paper when I am painting outside. They are very inexpensive, especially compared to other art boards -- I don't need to worry about damaging them. I was pleased with the sturdiness. I wish they had a handhold to make carrying them easier. I'm going to try using a jig saw to cut a handhold.

Love these for watercolor painting
from San Diego, CA
I use these boards for stretching paper for watercolor painting. They are lightweight, natural and durable. I love that they are affordable and come in lots of sizes! I've also used them when I've needed a portable drawing board when I'm sketching on loose-leaf paper. I chose to buy these because when I was growing up my grandfather (professional artist) taught me to paint using boards similar to these. I give them four stars because even though I expect them to last a long time, I've noticed that pulling off the masking tape I've used to secure the paper has caused some of the fibers of the board to be raised. I'm guessing that after a while water will seep in and cause the board to buckle a bit. Hasn't happened yet, but I'm looking far down the road. For this price, however, I don't even mind! I prefer wooden boards to the plastic painting boards because these are natural and not as slippery, and I can use these for a variety of purposes. Some people say they use the smaller of these boards (6'') for a paint palate, but I wouldn't do that because it would be hard to see the pigment on the dark background of the wood. That's just me, though! Overall, a wonderful and versatile product.
Just what I was looking fo

Variety of sizes to fit any artwork project.
These boards make life so much easier! I have limited space in my studio- these boards allow me to work on several paintings at once and to stretch my paper in advance in batches. While I'm waiting for some areas to dry I can set the board aside and carry on working at my table. The price is great and I'm very pleased with variety of sizes. I had favored blocks when working on 140lb watercolor paper, but I feel like I'm getting the hang of stretching/ taping down my paper so this will save me a great deal of money in the end! I will be back to purchase some of the larger sizes that were temporarily out of stock.#sweepstakes

Pretty straightforward - smooth, hard surface for you to do your art magic. Good price and fast shipping are always a plus. BLICK is fast becoming my go to for art supplies.But...I had to deduct a star, not for lack of quality, for those UPC labels that are so unnecessary. I damaged the surface of one side of each of my two boards removing them (used Goof-Off). To all manufacturers and sellers: Stop that; there are too many alternatives to use that will quit irritating us purchasers.
Merchant response: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on these panels. The labels use a heat-activated adhesive, so to remove the labels easily and cleanly with no damage to the board, all you need to do is apply heat. Don't use with heavy wet media
By Art Teacher
from Asheville, NC
I was excited to used your hard board panels for a mixed media project as I had used them before to do collage and image transfers on the surface with my students. This time my students used a good amount of modeling paste on the surface and I got some warping from each project. This was a little disappointing. I will definitely use them for less wet media again.
Merchant response: Thank you for you for your review! For the project you describe, applying gesso or an acrylic size to seal the surface prior to the modeling paste application should help reduce warping.
