Comments about Hahnemühle Hahnemühle Bamboo Paper Pads:
The surface of the paper feels absolutely marvelous! It reminds me of the velvety surfaces of some 100% cotton watercolor paper. The pad is actually taped down on two sides, making it somewhat of a semi-block. At first I misread the label and I thought it was watercolor paper, and I covered my whole paper with water (something I would never do with mixed media paper!) Luckily, the page dried flat in the pad, so yes, this mixed media paper can take full watercolor washes. I also used it with some alcohol markers (Copic, etc.) and the paper held up fine. There's a small bit of feathering, but not as bad as some watercolor paper (namely Canson Montval cold press, which feathers like crazy). I put a sheet of paper underneath just in case there was bleed through. The marker did soak to the back, but didn't stain the paper underneath. I generally don't do heavy layers of markering, though.Colored pencil and ink also work well on this paper.I've been looking for a good paper with some texture to combine markers and watercolors on, and so far this is one of the best.I took off a star for two main reasons:1. Using a kneaded eraser on it changes the texture of the paper, which some people could possibly take as a plus. I recommend drawing a sketch on another surface first, and then transferring the final draft to this paper.2. The entire block comes off the cardboard backing too easily. I may have received a lemon with shoddy glue though. Since I work plein air often, I actually need the cardboard backing. This won't be a problem for those who rip the sheets out of the pad.2.5 Okay, this is just nitpicking, but I wish the cover could be heavier duty. It's just a sheet of floppy glossy paper. When the pad is closed, the cover WILL get wavy if the piece underneath is wet.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Quality, Versatile, & Worth the Expense
from Savannah, GA
I was given a pad of this paper from a representative and I have fallen in love with it. It is of a very high quality and at the same time, versatile. I use it for sketching outside with a variety of materials, graphite, charcoal, quill pens and brushes with ink, as well as watercolor. No matter what material I feel like using, it is always the right one. I have even used it to make copies of my sketches on a laser printer. It holds up to a lot of abuse, so it is easy to make corrections and still look professional. I highly recommend it. It is expensive, but the quality is worth it.
