Grumbacher uses two formulas for their pan watercolors, so you can enjoy the clarity of a transparent watercolor or the velvety coverage of an opaque. The colors are poured into large, circular cakes that snap in and out of the trays for cleaning and rearranging.
Each set comes with a choice of either 12 or 24 colors. and includes a pointed, round red sable watercolor brush. The opaque watercolor sets include a 5 ml tube of Chinese White.

Grumbacher Opaque Watercolors
Its worth the extra dough to get nicer pan sets like this Grumbacher variety! I instantly found that the colors mixed well and seeped into the page so colorful and saturated. Thank you Blick for my genuine quality supplies!

My favorite watercolors.
I've tried a lot of different watercolor brands and Grumbachers are the best I've come across. I would recommend them to any other painters/artists.

I received my product and so far I have only made swatches of all the colors and they are smooth, bright, and pigmented. I would recommend this to anyone who wants vivid colors in their paintings!
from New Castle
Only down side is there are no refills for the colors even though the pans can be detached.Very rich and easy combine to get just what you want.
A great surprise

I like the blues and the Payne grey. Colors are bright and more manageable than tubes. They mix well, some better than others. Good to use with waterbrush when travelling.
Really light soft colours
Transparent happy colours, really bright and vibrant, but not for painting realistic natural colours.

First Time Disappointment in Grumbacher
I began to use these paints to make a color palette and find out how the colors appeared. I was so disappointed. I have other pan WC that with a tiny drop of water jump to life. I expected the same, after all I had used Grumbacher tube paints and love their vibrancy and ease of reconstitution with water should they dry out on the palette. So since the tube paints even dried jump to life, I expected these pans to do the same. It takes more than a little water, it is hard on brushes since you have to rub the pan repeatedly to convince enough color onto the brush and even then they are pale and resemble a wash instead of opaque color. Unfortunately, I can't comment on lightfastness, I didn't take the time to look it up since I am going to give them to my 8 year old granddaughter. She won't care about lightfastness.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

These paints are the best I have ever used. My only wish is that they had a larger set with more color variety.

I like to do pen and ink drawings and then watercolor to finish. I love these paints! the opaque and translucent are so cool! I know they are more expensive but so nice to use when going plein air and working outside. they will last a long time and I would totally buy them again!
