Welcome to dickblick
This permanent, fast-drying Titanium White oil paint is designed for use in underpainting or in wet-in-wet (alla prima) painting. Specifically formulated to create a lean, dry paint film, MG Underpainting White has enough tooth to readily accept glazes.
Other uses include creating surface textures and impasto techniques. In normal applications, MG Underpainting White dries to the touch in 4 to 6 hours and may be painted over immediately.
Need to control drying time? Mix MG Underpainting White with oil colors or mediums. To dilute, mix it with Pure Gum Spirits of Turpentine or Grumtine only. Petroleum solvents and paint thinners and odorless paint thinners are not compatible with this product. Mixtures of MG Underpainting White in excess of 1:1 will result in a brittle, dry paint film.

An essential product
from Houma, LA
Comments about Grumbacher MG Underpainting White:
I use Grumbacher's MG Underpainting White to cover canvases I want to paint over. Seems to me better than oil-based gesso. MGUW also good to cover those areas where the paint is scrapped off and you want to paint over. Better than titanium or other white for covering. A staple in my paint box.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Really is Thick
By Flash Bandicoot
from The Mountain West
It does work well, hides well, but really is stiff. You've got to thin it, and I think that accounts for why it takes much longer to dry than it says on the tube. I've found my linseed oil/turpentine mix does OK, but is a nuisance mooshing all the lumps out since there is absolutely no way it is usable straight from the tube. It is also so difficult to squeeze from the tube that I often wonder if I will burst the tube later in its life. I'm too cheap to throw it away, so when I finish it off, I'll get something else for underpainting.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

RE: DONT THROW IT AWAY!
By Eye Candy
Read the description and you will see that it is not compatible with OMS and other solvents. You have to thin or dilute with Pure Gum Spirits of Turpentine or Grumtine only. Petroleum solvents and paint thinners and odorless paint thinners are not compatible. Not a waste of money at all.

Too Thick - Not Happy
By Steve The Decoy Painter
from Eagan, MN
Brand new tube. It was on sale and I was squeezing the last dribbles out of my WN Griffin Alkyd white. Tried to squeeze the Grum MG out on the pallet and it is so thick, I can hardly get it to come out of the tube. Once out, I know I have to thin so I use OMS with much frustration. I cant do it with a brush, it has to be with a palette knife. Arrrrggghh. I hope this is an anomoly cuz I really like Grumbacher products. This one however, is hitting the trash and I am back to Griffin.
