Grumbacher Max Oil Painting Mediums are two completely non-toxic formulas that can be freely used with Max paints without concern about proportions. Each enhances the water miscibility of Max or mixtures of Max with conventional oils. They are compatible with conventional oils but will not make them water miscible.

Does what I had hoped for
By That painting guy
Comments about Grumbacher Max Oil Painting Mediums:
I use this with W&N Artisan oil paints. It smooths out the consistency of the paint nicely. I use close to equal parts of paint and medium. It dries in 24 hours. W&N Artisan Fast Drying Medium is too thick and it feels tacky when it dries. This has a much more fluid consistency with no tackiness. I highly recommend this to all water mixable oil painters. Buy yourself an eyedropper from the drug store. It makes it easy to control the amount you use and it cuts down on mess and waste.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

No better choice right now

Nice product, works real good...water soluble...but the price per bottle is to high...consider the amount one uses in a painting...expensive. I consider it well over priced for amount of product you get...hope to find a substitute soon.No reflection on Blick.I am always thankful for Blick's lowest pricing
Max OIl Essential to painting
By Hobby painter
If you want to paint with water miscible oils, this medium is essential. You can clean your brushes with water and a good soap, but for painting mix the paint with this oil - not water. All the difference in the world.
Both the Grum Max Oiling Painting Mediums work as I expected

I use the Linseed oil to put over the gobs of paint when I put them out. That makes hem work smoother. The Quick I a good medium and does speed up the drying.

Love the quick dry!

I have been teaching and and painting for over 30 years. So far, this is the best thinner I have found. It allows me to work on top of wet oil paint and is usually dry the next day. Mix with your paint as you are painting. It does dry shinny, so try and use it all over or just on something that you want a little shine to, like water.

Not really non-toxic
I developed a strong headache the first time I used the quick dry medium. How can it be advertised as non-toxic when it contains dipropylene glycol which affects the central nervous system (hence the headache)? Very disappointed in this product! By the way I was working in a well ventilated area with two large windows open right next to me and a ceiling fan on. I asked others about this product in an online forum and they also told me it ended up in the trash due to the strong odor.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Grumbacher Quick Dry Medium
This is my favorite brand to quicken the drying time of my water mixable oil paints. I do thin it with water sometimes and it improves the flow without creating color change problems.
Grumbacher Max Water-Miscible Artist Oil Paint is made from the same pigments and linseed oil as Grumbacher Pre-Tested Oils, and they have comparable drying time. Max Grumbacher colors can be intermixed with any other oil colors or oil painting mediums, and they can be varnished after just 6 months. Learn more and get some tips as to best ways to work with Max paint.
