This really darkened my pastel and I did follow all the instructions which were not on the can but had to find on the website. This was in a way not practical. I don't know if it was still user error and may test on some other items that are of no value and experiment. I hope that this has not caused me to loose first place and the monetary value. Also was working on getting a professional to take a picture of it as many wanted the option of having prints in various sizes. Not sure I have time to go back through and lighten it again.

This is the only fixative that I feel confident enough to use on my oil pastels. All other brands of fixative tended to leave my oil pastels sticky. Grumbacher's final fixative makes the surface stable and after 3 or 4 coats there is no lifting when rubbed with a finger. I could frame without glass but it is not firm enough to pass the fingernail test. However, I have put self leveling gel over this surface and I feel it is stable enough to frame my oil pastels without glass.

Did not like product. Darkened my picture splotchy made some parts transparent. Might be ok for other media, definately not for pastels at all.

Please do not use with pastel paintings. I know the warnings about darkening the painting, but when I sprayed this as a test (very lightly from a 1' distance) splotches showed up all over the painting. Some of the colors became slightly translucent such that I could see my initial graphite sketch underneath the painting in places! I will never, ever, use this spray fixative for my pastel work again.

A bit pricey but good things cost money. This particular product does what it should. Application is intensively caustic smelling so take precautions when applying to your work. I use this product outside only ! Preferably in an open breeze with no one around. A face mask made for chemical applications like painting, would also help. Product dries fast and smell does not linger long with light application.
