Grumbacher Gesso is awesome for texturing a canvas
from Pueblos, CO
Love this gesso for texturing a canvas. It's thick and holds a texture even after it drys.
Schumacher Acrylic Gesso
from Tulsa, OK
The painting process I use is best served by the Grumbacher gesso. The product is consistent and mixes extremely well with my other paint. The artist I am learning from recommended Grumbacher gesso and I trust his opinion due to his experience with other similar products and his staying with Grumbacher gesso.

Excellent coverage and very opaque.
Best over-all acrylic gesso I've used so far
from Greenville, OH
I use this for white on my acrylic pallet. It doesn't dry as fast on the pallet as some other good quality gessoes but it still has a nice tooth so other layers of paint bond very well, which can be a problem with the cheaper brands. It does have a dull (matte) look when dried but to me that is a good sign of quality adhesion between layers and the varnish or glazing will take care of that anyway. I'm not sure I will use it for my initial gessoing of substrates, even though other quality gessoes dry extremely fast they can be cheaper and have great tooth.

An indispensable part of my acrylics

My favorite gesso
from Kalispell, MT
Whether using oil or acrylics on masonite board or a linen canvas Grumbacher gesso has better 'tooth' for accepting the paints. It lasts a long time and is easy to apply.
Thick and smooth gesso
from Kingwood ,
I mixed the gesso with water to get an easy to apply consistency. I tried applying it to my stretched, cotton duck, canvas, thinned with just a little water, and it was hard to apply. I brushed the unprimed canvas with water first and the gesso was much easier to apply.
The ONLY Gesso that I use
from Lansing, MI
This is the only Gesso that I use with my acrylic paintings. I use this instead of the Titanium white tubes; thicker and goes on brighter!
Single source supplier
from Naples, ID
Looked everywhere for this quality product until I finally found it at Blicks. Delivery was prompt and price was a good value for the quality. Blicks will be my supplier for acrylic paints and other supplies in the future.
