Welcome to dickblick
These student grade brushes for oil and acrylic combine quality craftsmanship at an affordable price. They are particularly matched to the Grumbacher Academy Oil and Acrylic paints.
Academy Hog Bristle brushes feature long handles and deeply flagged tips. They have extra long bristles for more control and longer paint strokes.
Brush sizes — The length and width of a brush of a given shape and size may vary by manufacturer as brush sizes are not standardized. Since fine art brushes are handmade, expect some variation even among brushes from within a single brush line.

A very good bargain.

Comments about Grumbacher Academy Hog Bristle Brushes:
I have been using Grumbacher brushes for 50 years. They last and last as long as they are cleaned properly and protected from damage. I believe each new brush should have instructions on how to properly clean the brush included. I know a lot of people who paint, and very few know how to clean a brush. They ask me why my brushes stay so nice and work so well, but when I show them the proper way to clean a brush, they don't want to spend that much effort. The Academy hog bristle brush is not Grumbacher's best, but it is a very good brush, excellent for the "heavy" work of underpainting.

Some of the hairs fell out and it tended to clump the paint

Maybe it's just me
from Orlando, FL
I'm new to painting; most of my paint brushes were given to me - gently used. I have bought a few new ones though. I was looking for a filbert brush and came upon this brand and thought it was a good deal.Well, perhaps it's just my ignorance, but when I went to use this brush for the first time, there was this sticky and glue-y stuff within the brush. I cleaned the paint off in water and now the brush is really not usable. I could be wrong though.
Merchant response: Thank you for reaching out to us. Most natural hair brushes are dipped in a corn starch based solution by the manufacturer. This solution stiffens the bristles to protect them during shipment. Prior to first use, all brushes should be washed in warm water with a gentle soap, then dried thoroughly. You may also lightly tug on the bristles as you wash and dry to help remove any loose hairs so they don't end up in your paintings! Good, stiff brush!
Nice stiff brush for covering large areas with acrylic paint.
brushes are just what I needed

I use these for oils and they are great
nice brush for painting on clay
from Laguna Beach, CA
Tried a couple of these brushes because they were on special. I liked them because they were stiff enough to use with slip. Also very long handles so they can reach deep into my ceramic piece if I need to smooth a seam.

I run my own "Paint Party" business teaching hundred's of people per month. These brushes have a decent quality and are within my budget. I would highly recommend for class room use.

Don't Waste Your Money on These
By College Art Student
I bought these hoping that they would be better quality than some backup brushes i bought for a college painting class, unfortunately they were the same quality and not worth the money. Dust comes off the brush which may not seem like a big deal but that debris will end up in paint. Also, some of the bristles came damaged.
I thought it might not be available
from Brookings, OR
I thought I might not be able to replace my favorite brush. I used it for several years and it was totally worn out. I was surprised to find the same brush at Blick's and I am very happy with using it to paint acrylic paintings.

Not what I expected
from Hastings, MN
This brush was a little less than I expected. I was hoping for something more professional.
