Comments about Grumbacher Academy Acrylics:

Wonderful pigmentation, great colours, good range of colours to choose from, great for colour mixing theory work and an inexpensive way to experiment.

I use them myself for working on my colour mixing skills, and both my 3 year old daughter and I use them for printing on our Gelli Arts Printing Plate.

I don't know that I would use them for a serious piece of artwork, but for experimentation and warming up before doing anything for long-term or display purposes I think that these are absolutely fabulous and highly recommend them.

Works well as water-based susbtitute for oil-style painting. Holds brush strokes, or can be spread smoothly. Works well with retarder gel and spray. Color quality is excellent, except for some colors that are not opaque and have less than great coverage over darker colors. For some reason, out of the many colors I purchased, the white is sort of lumpy and a bit hard to blend. Otherwise the consistency is thick and creamy - has body but still spreads well. I use mostly acrylic canva-paper with this paint. Have not tried it on actual canvas. Will continue to purchase as these run out. Nice that it is a USA company, too.

I'm using this product in an introductory art course, and while the pigment load could be better, the price is right (you will find it hard to find a better acrylic at this price point). I would recommend this particular Grumbacher line for course work or studies. Anything beyond that, and I would suggest using an acrylic with a higher pigment load.

I am not an artist, but have a young son who is. He was thrilled with the acrylic paints we received from this site. We have used them on the canvas paper and they provide good coverage and blendability. The color selection and price are great and will keep us ordering more when needed.

I teach acrylic painting and I've been using Liquitex "Basics" brand for years -I used Grumbacher academy acrylics recently in my classes and found that they have more viscosity ( thicker ) than Liquitex Basics and keep their color better when dry. I think that they are the best acrylics in their category.

I believe academy acrylics are not very good acrylics. They dry too fast, they have too much water or liquid in them, and do not mix well with other paints. The colors are not very pretty, and they are probably some of the most disapointing paints I have ever used. They are disapointing even for being student grade paints. I used this products for portaits on canvas. I believe I did not get my moneys worth. 02-15-2010

I usually ONLY use professional artist acrylics, but there are just some colors Grumbacher student grade acrylics have that no one else has. I love them and use them when the color is needed.
