Golden Interference and Iridescent Heavy Body Acrylics add an exciting range of options to your creative repertoire. Used alone, or mixed with other acrylic paints, they enable you to achieve color effects that are truly spectacular.

Interference Acrylics — Interference colors "flip" between a bright opalescent and its complement, depending on the angle of the viewer. Relatively transparent, they allow artists the ability to glaze with unique effects. Add gels for impasto texture or thin with mediums. Try adding a very small amount of black to produce deeper, richer, opalescent effects.

Iridescent Acrylics — Iridescent colors synthetically reproduce natural phenomena, such as the nacreous quality of fish scales and butterfly wings, or the pearlescent effects of certain metals and minerals. When mixed traditional colors and mediums, they impart a luminous quality. "Coarse" colors employ a larger reflective particle size in comparison to "Fine" colors.

Note — Use this color chart as an approximation of the real color. If exact color matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.

When these first came on the market I bought a few colors thinking they were a novelty or gimmick that would be fun but not that useful. Actually, they add something special to an acrylic painting that you really need to see to understand. It's a sort of subtle sparkle that doesn't jump out at you. It adds interest to a painting without taking it over (unless you want it to). These certainly aren't a necessity if you are on a tight budget, but they are a useful addition for creating special and experimental effects if you feel like branching out a bit. My acrylic paintings are mostly done with a painting knife on canvas, with moderate to heavy layers of texture built up over a smooth underpainting. I have used these interference paints in several ways. Either thinned as a glaze over other colors, or at full strength alone or mixed with another solid color. Interference paints can make an interesting underlayer if you leave some areas where it shows through the top layers. All the Golden paints I have tried can be mixed with other brands of acrylic, and these are no exception. I have no dislikes about this product.

I use this stuff all the times in my classroom and it is great stuff; however, it gets constly especially for stuff students only use because it is shiney. I honeslty don't know if students know where or when to use it but if you know you need this product it works great.
