Golden Gel Topcoat with UVLS (ultraviolet light stabilizers) retains brushstrokes while protecting prints, paper, and other materials from fading. Use these gels to add texture or create a clear barrier prior to working with paint or other materials.
They can also be used to modify sheen and provide a non-removable, water-based topcoat. Whatever you use them for, Golden Gel Topcoats provide the benefit of ultraviolet light filters and stabilizers for protection against fading. In addition, they help lower overall water-sensitivity, limit air exposure, and provide increased durability to artworks.
Overall, when used as a final layer, these gels greatly increase the longevity and lightfastness of virtually all digital media. However, if you are exhibiting your pieces without glass, the manufacturer strongly recommends application of a removable varnish in addition to the Gel Topcoat in order to facilitate cleaning and future conservation.
Golden Gel Topcoats are fully compatible with other Golden gels, mediums, and acrylic colors, and can be used to create gel skins, image gel transfers, decoupage collage elements, extend paints or increase their transparency, create a wet layer to work into, or simply as a clear ground to work on top of.

Exactly what I needed!
By Karen Wysopal Art
Comments about Golden Gel Topcoat with UVLS:
Using this as a topcoat for pieces I'd rather have completely smooth but I'm not willing to use toxic sprays to achieve that result. I spoke with Golden directly about my concern about brushstrokes. The suggested a 50/50 dilution with water, and assured me that with 2 coats, UV protection would match that of one coat full strength. I found this dilution easy to put down, and when completely cured (about 48 hours), the brush strokes are hardly noticeable. Very happy with the result. Colors come through more vivid than before the application (using Gloss.) I'll keep using this!

Just what I had hoped for!

I use this with Mulberry Paper from Vietnam. I want to protect my paper from the sun. I have used this as my topcoat. Goes on easily. Dries clear. Now if it protects for as long as advertised...only time will tell!

Enhanced protection with brush strokes

I use this product full strength on textured pieces as my finish coat where I want the brush strokes to show.It goes on smoothly . I use it full strength on Giclee's where I would like brush strokes . I thin it with water when I want a smooth no stroke surface and do multiple coats . I use the semi-gloss and like how it enhances and brings out the richness of the colors

Great plastic barrier
By the Bruce

I haven't lived long enough to test the properties of Gel Topcoat but I like the way it goes on and dries quickly. It's a great barrier for both top and bottom of your picture especially if there's a possibility of staining from the substrate. It also prevents bleeding through to the canvas when using lots of thin paints or glazes. And the idea of sealing the painting from the top with a non-removable layer before varnishing really appeals to me. The varnish can always be removed for cleaning without the possibility of damaging the painting itself. Great!
A new and exciting acrylic medium that allows for digital printing on any surface that is thin enough to run through a printer. This demonstration shows how it's done.
