It provided a nice matte finish, but remained very tacky- sticky when dry. This is after a week. Fuzz and dust sticks to it. I do not recommend it.

used matte finish on watercolor done on yupo paper. Sprayed 3 fine coats, 15 minutes apart. Worked well, no dull finish. Shook can as directed.

Careful how you spray. If you spray too heavily and your art gets wet it will ruin the image by making it dry foggy with a crusty surface that flakes off.

I used this product in two canvas photos. I was concerned, but the results are really outstanding. No blotching, very even and fast dry and you can see the improvement and protecting film really even. (Note I used the Satin kind)

Bought this final fixative in replacement for one that was out of stock for use on some charcoal renderings. High quality like most Golden product, but not the best for dry media, really darkened my work, more so than other final fixatives that I have used, but has a wonderful velvety mat finish.
Great for acrylic & oil as a final protective finish.

This spray has been used for sometime by me on inkjet prints. primarily because of my trust in Golden products. Just do not spray this (Satin) on glossy surfaces. Us old guys do forget
what we already know, Satin finish not on any extra smooth or glossy surface, gives back little gray bumps, is very seeable.

I've used this finish (matte) on watercolor on Aquabord and WC canvas, and on collages already sealed with multiple coats of acrylic medium. In the case of the watercolors, I used 8-10 coats, outside in the sun to dry, waiting a half hour or longer in-between coats. I accidentally left one outside when I left and it got rained on after several coats. No damage.

I find it also does the job I want on my collages, leaving a matte, clear finish. Approximately four coats. I haven't tried it on gouache or on acrylic, but I wouldn't hesitate to do that. If I wanted to seal a watercolor on traditional paper, I guess I'd try it first on one I didn't care much about, considering the other reviews.

I just wanted to update my original review now that I've used up the entire can, and after reading the more positive review below. I still maintain this was not good for watercolor or gouache, chalky film developed, but it was much better when used on pencils, inks, and pastels. I'm not sure this is the first choice if you want to protect an acrylic painting when there are so many more medium choices for acrylic - beside, the Golden Spray leaves behind a rough or course feeling when you rub your hand along the surface sprayed. The Lascaux UV Protect spray is better (but more expensive) with neither chalky film build-up nor course residue. So this Golden spray is OK, just not for the gouache and WC I wanted to use it on. Thank you!

I was a little concerned after reading the review from the person who bought the spray varnish in a matte finish and it created a dusty film on their artwork. Prior to reading that review I had been considering buying the matte finish myself, but just to be on the safe side, I purchased it in Satin.
I used it first on an acrylic painting my daughter finished over a year ago. I shook the can the recommended length of time, and working outside in the shade, applied it to the painting. Waited the recommended 15-20 minutes and then re-coated. Waited another 15-20 minutes, then applied a 3rd and final coat. The colors in the painting are back to their original depth, lustre, etc. No weird dusting occured.
So then I moved on to a more recently completed collaborative work - one half is an acrylic painting on canvas, the other half is a multi-media collage using mostly acrylic paint, newspaper and magazine cut-outs on canvas.
I was concerned that it might discolor or otherwise negatively effect the magazine paper, but it was fine. I applied 3 thin coats, waiting the recommended time in between layers, shaking the can pretty much constantly. The entire work, especially the multi-media side, seems a little brighter, more vibrant. I love it.
Once a year or so I intend to take the piece outside, dust it off, and apply another coat. The UV filters were very important to me when deciding what product to buy and this product advertised the most. Only time will tell if it works as well as it should in that capacity...
