Golden Archival Spray Varnish provides a protective finish layer for fine artwork created with a wide variety of mediums, including acrylics, oils, pastels, watercolors, temperas, and inkjet prints.
It offers excellent dirt-, dust-, and moisture-resistance, and is removable for conservation purposes. It contains ultraviolet light filters and stabilizers (UVLS) to provide archival protection and inhibit light damage. The adjustable fan spray tip allows for precise application with reduced overspray.
Note — When using this product as a final varnish for oil paintings, allow at least 6-12 months for the paint film to cure before application. Heavy layers of varnish on fresh oil paint can impede the oxidation process and result in failure. However a light layer may be applied as a temporary varnish when the oil paint film is touch-dry.

Can't open the top!!
I've never used this before & decided to buy 3 different cans (satin, matte, and gloss) to see which will work best for my application - I make Ukranian pysanky eggs & thought the UV protection in these formulas might really help so the eggs can be displayed in a sunny location. Read a ton of reviews & all were so positive that I thought it would be a good investment. However, I haven't been able to use the products AT ALL because I can't get the tops off the cans!! It's ridiculous -- I tried to follow the directions on the top, which say to insert a screw driver in the space available & lift up. I spent 30 minutes trying to do this to no avail. Ended up breaking the top completely. What a totally miserable design!!Again, can't review the actual spray because I still haven't used it but WILL NEVER BUY THIS AGAIN!!!!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Use this to protect and preserve giclee prints on flexible substrates. Ease of application and its durability really can't be matched. Have always been happy with Golden products.

I use this varnish for sealing mounted watercolors. It provides a superior finish without dropping or clouding up. Very satisfied with product.

I use this product to seal and preserve my paintings. I am only giving it four stars simply because I have not used it that long apx a year. I would feel more comfortable with a longer history. So far it's been good.

Great Spray Varnish-as I notice it does not run when I spray the painting. Great Gloss finish for paintings.

A Fine Archival Spray
I truly find that the Golden Archival Spray Varnish is truly the finest. I have used all the spray varnish brands and all are good in their own right. But, with Golden the 3 main positives I notice...(1) there does not seem to be any over spray-off the canvas when in use. The spray hole and product work good together to flow well and spray evenly on the canvas. (2) I also noticed there seems to never be any dribble/dripping if I am putting on a heavier coat. (3) I also noticed there is not a heavy smell-I normally have to wear a mask or plug my nose when spraying..but, with this product-I do not do this. Truly this product is worth the extra money. And, I am truly left with the feeling the painting is really being protected by the Golden Archival Spray Varnish.

Great Finish for Gallery-Quality Work
from Santa Fe, NM
I use this as a final varnish on my figurative oil paintings. It protects them from dirt, smoke and UV damage. In the event that the painting gets a serious stain, the coating can actually removed, revealing the undamaged oil painting beneath it. I sell a lot of my work to collectors that are fairly particular about the finish on the work, so this product is perfect for that. It brings out the depth of color, and the satin finish eliminates glare. It should be used after the oil painting dries completely (6 months on thicker paint) to avoid cracking in the future.
