Golden Gel Mediums offer artists many ways to build texture. They range in consistency from pourable to moldable with varying degrees of sheen and transparency. They can be used to create glazes, extend paints, and change finishes. Some gels incorporate pumice, glass, or acrylic granules that impart unique reflective, rough, or absorbent surface qualities.
Gels can be thought of as colorless paint, as they are composed of 100% acrylic polymers similar to acrylic paint. They can also act as adhesives in collage and mixed media that dry to form continuous films, offering excellent flexibility and resistance to chemicals, water, and ultraviolet light.
Clear Granular Gel
Made with coarse acrylic granules, this gloss acrylic gel is designed to add texture without altering color. It's excellent for making translucent, textural glazes and dries to an extremely rough crushed-glass appearance.
Clear Leveling Gel
A thick, fluid acrylic medium designed to produce an even film with excellent clarity. It has a unique resinous, stringy consistency and dries to a flexible, high gloss film. Blend with Golden Acrylics to produce glazes.
Clear Tar Gel
Designed to produce a stringy, tar-like feel in a colorless gel. The gel is excellent for "dripping" over surfaces. The more it's mixed, the stringier it becomes. Letting the mixture sit before use allows foam bubbles to rise. Blend the gel with Golden Acrylics to add color.
Extra Heavy Gel
A very thick acrylic medium, Extra Heavy Gel holds peaks well and is ideal for impasto techniques. Along with the High Solid Gel, it's the thickest of the Golden Gels. Available in Gloss, Matte, and Semi-Gloss.
Extra Heavy Molding Paste
This light gray, semi-opaque texture medium is great for building texture. It retains tool marks and peaks and dries to a slightly translucent appearance. It also mixes cleanly with color.
Glass Bead Gel
A clear acrylic gel with small, densely packed glass beads. It adds texture and luminous effects.
Thicker in consistency than Golden Heavy Body Acrylics, these gels hold peaks and dry translucent. They're ideal for thickening, extending colors, altering sheen, and increasing translucency of acrylic paint. Blend them with colors to increase body. Available in Gloss, Matte, and Semi-Gloss.
High Solid Gel
One of Golden's thickest gels, High Solid Gel holds high peaks, useful for simulating oil paint behavior. It contains less water and more acrylic solids, so it shrinks less than other gels. Retains texture, brushstrokes, and tool marks. Available in Gloss and Matte.
Pumice Gel - Coarse
Dries to an opaque gray porous texture. Has a rough concrete appearance.
Pumice Gel - Fine
Dries to a warm gray, translucent, matte, and toothy surface. Suitable as a ground for pencils, pastels, and similar drawing media.
These gels have a consistency similar to Golden Heavy Body Acrylics. They extend paint and regulate translucency without affecting consistency, hold moderate peaks and textures, and are ideal for glazing. Available in Gloss, Matte, and Semi-Gloss.
Included in this convenient introductory set is one 2 oz (60 ml) jar of Soft Gel (Gloss), Regular Gel (Semi-Gloss), Extra-Heavy Gel (Matte), Light Molding Paste, Coarse Pumice Gel, and Clear Tar Gel.
Thinner than Golden Heavy Body Acrylic colors, these gels are moderately pourable, hold only slight peaks, and are ideal for glazing and other techniques that require transparency.
Soft Gels can also be used to create a non-removable isolation coat over any painting. To do so, gels must be thinned with water at a two-to-one ratio and applied prior to any coats of varnish. Available in Gloss, Matte, and Semi-Gloss.

Great product, fast delivery

Comments about Golden Acrylic Gel Mediums:
I am a collage artist and mostly work on big pieces. This gel has the right thickness to distribute on artwork without any problems. I also find that it leaves thinner paper relatively flat, opposed to other brands (more liquid) where the bigger paper pieces dry to be wavy (very annoying). It dries quickly, is non-toxic (important if you work in your home), and has a great subtle sheen to it once dried. I am using this brand for years, but never purchased the big size. Very happy with it, and the deal is great. A lot of bang for your buck. If you use it a lot, buy it!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great product. Would buy again.

I love to use lots of texture in my painting, and Golden high solid gel is perfect for that. It allows you to paint with heavy impasto and build up rich, textural surfaces.
Golden Self-Levelling Gel ... eh.
This product came up in a few videos I watched, and because I've been experimenting with Liquitex Pouring Medium, I thought I'd give this a try, too. It was my intention to use it primarily as it was made to be used, as a top layer with some depth, but I also wanted to compare it to the PM, too, since logically it fulfills a similar purpose - to dry as a clear layer with no crazing and retain some depth. I will not be buying this again, unless I find a new way to use it. I had terrible trouble with bubbles, even after I did everything I could to alleviate them (pouring and slow spreading, misting with alcohol, even torching), and I also had two incidences where it also shrank significantly and left large cracks. The one thing I didn't try was thinning it down -- this stuff is quite a bit thicker than PM, though it does flow slowly on its own, a bit heavier than honey -- but if I wanted thinner, why wouldn't I just use PM? Also this has a distinct odor to it. It wasn't overpowering, but I definitely could smell it.Overall, not terribly impressed. It also wasn't level like I'd hoped. I guess I'll have to go to resin for a truly smooth surface.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Self-Leveling Clear Gel. This medium is actually not designed as a pouring medium, and has the limitations you've noted. A better starting point in the Golden product range is their GAC 800, which resists shrinkage and crazing when used as recommended.
