Welcome to dickblick
This acrylic liquid surfacing medium dries to a high absorbency, porous, paper-like surface. Applied over gessoed canvas, it allows for raw canvas-like staining techniques and watermedia applications with acrylic or watercolor paint. Lightfast, permanent, and flexible.

I love this product and trust this brand
By Valentina la tropical fashionista

I really like this brand and use it as a base coat to make lower end pigments pop. It has great coverage, I also use it alone as a white paint. I have always ordered this brand so I trust it the most.Although you can get a cheaper priced gesso it makes sense for me to spend extra here and have all of my colors very radiant.
Surface is Like Unsized Paper
By Katy Did

I bought is product so I could use waterbrushes with watercolor paint to letter on a journal page (I was told that you can't watercolor over Gesso). The ground is absorbent all right, but the letters bled. I had better luck when I lettered over regular Gesso. The surface is like unsized paper. This product may be great for other uses, but I wouldn't recommend it for lettering or other instances when you want defined edges.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I have been experimenting with this special purpose gesso in acrylic painting as fresh underpainting white, later, after the painting is fully developed. It will take awhile to get this to work but the "watercolor" characteristic of paint is usually in the beginning not after the whole surface has been worked with lots of color. The texture is interesting too. I tried it as a ground on wood and the texture is gritty and very absorbent. There is a beauty to oil paintings with layers and layers that eventually have a pebbled surface (Balthus). This ground has the potential to get acrylics to work that way too.

Loving these Absorbent Grounds!
By Lisa DO

This is my first time using absorbent grounds, and I wish I'd known about them sooner! What a difference they make with water-based markers on top of non-pourous surfaces. Without them, it wouldn't be possible, and now I can use my water color pencils, crayons, markers and paints to my heart's content.

Lightweight, flexible, sandable, takes color well.
I use this to prep canvas for watercolor and ink. It works really well, I have not used a similar product so I do not have a comparison. I think it is a little expensive, and the warning label is a little scary. All in all a good product and I will continue to purchase it.
This product creates new horizons in my art expressions.

Using this coating on an ordinary gessoed canvas allows for wonderfully fun creative effects with water color. It is easy to use. Once the project is completed it can be sprayed with clear acrylic coating. Now you have a watercolor painting that doesn't need glass in the frame. It can be a bit to clean it out of your application brush. I find that rinsing with warm water and dish soap makes the brush useful again for doing coatings.
Best medium for water soluble products.

I use this on canvas to make it more receptive to water base products. Excellent base for Inktense, watercolor paints, crayons and pencils.
