Welcome to dickblick
Made of pure graphite in a convenient pencil shape and size, these woodless wonders give you more of what you want a pencil for. Purchase a set in each hardness so you can render different tonal values with ease.
They're perfect for creating broad strokes and crisp edges, and they can also produce thin lines and render details as you draw or sketch.
Sharpen them in a handheld sharpener without the mess of wood shavings. These pencils come pre-sharpened. HB is the hardest, and 8B is the softest.
Set of 4
Contains 4 smooth Woodless Graphite pencils, including 1 each of HB, 2B, 4B, and 6B hardnesses. Also included is a handheld sharpener.

Comments about General's Pure Woodless Graphite:
I fell into these pencils years ago by accident, trying to look fancy with the art supplies I bought. for school At the time, I was drawing full renders with pencils, and when I saw these, it was a no brainer. What I didn't know is that these pencils would spoil me for life. I dislike working with wood pencils when drawing now, and if I can't have a mechanical pencil, I best have one of these with me. I always have a 2B in my travel case, and I always have it with my regularly used art supplies. Now that I've found I can buy them not in a packet with 4b and 6b, I don't ever think I'll turn back!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Near perfect graphite pencils
from West coast
I have used these pencils for years. I have the full range of hardnesses. For most purposes I like them better than standard wood-cased graphite pencils for the following reasons. They go down so smoothly, almost creamy, just gliding onto the paper. They blend absolutely beautifully with a stump, a Q-tip, or your finger. The softer pencils have excellent darkness. They sharpen easily with a hand sharpener to a good sharp point. The solid graphite means you can shade wide swaths of paper with the side of the tip. They feel weighty and solid in your hand. Drawing with them just feels good. This is minor, but they also look good with their shiny lacquered surface. On the down side, the price of such creamy goodness in a pencil is that the sharp point wears down quickly, but that's because the pencil is doing what it should do - transfering the graphite to your paper. Nevertheless, it means more frequent sharpening. If I have some very fine detail areas (I mean really small), I often use a standard graphite pencil. The other down side is that if someone really hates sharpening by hand, these pencils are not for them. These and other woodless pencils can easily break in an electric sharpener. Not just the tip, but the whole pencil just snaps in the middle from the torque. These two issues are really minor IMO in comparison to the beautiful results and great feel of these pencils. The price is also reasonable, and it's a USA company. I will contiue to use these as my primary graphite drawing pencils for a long time to come.

These pencils are very nice to work with. They are smoothe and easy to create gradual tone transitions.

These change the way I draw
I love love love these pencils! If you haven't tried woodless before (these are my firsts), you should give them a shot. Drawing feels so loose and natural with them - perfect for gestures. You rarely 'need' to sharpen them, unlike wooden pencils, and they can make great soft lines and values when they wear down. But when you do sharpen them they can have a point as sharp as a mechanical. A word of advice - as you might expect, the darker values will smudge like crazy in a spiral sketchbook unless you use fixative. I haven't had problems with HB or 2B though.

I don't draw. In fact I'd consider myself creatively challenged. But I wandered into my local Blick's in search for some unique writing utensils and found this awesome pencil. I'm happy to not deal with annoying wooden shards when I sharpen, and the pencil just feels really smooth and writes without resistance. Everyone at my office always oohs and aahs at my pencil when I write.
Can't beat these for getting dark values

These 9B woodless pencils are the best for shading and getting dark values very fast. I always have one around!

general graphite woodless pencils

I mainly used the 2b softness, which is my favorite, but these pencils seem to jump onto the paper, no graininess, just glides and the pressure is easily changed to shadow, or to come to a sharp edge.
Chenged how I sketch and draw!
from Ruidoso, nm
I have been drawing now since high school, and have always drawn with a mechanical pencil. I decided that I wanted to try and loosen up when I draw. With the mechanical pencils the tip was so small I was forever trying to draw everything tightly, Any line consistencies were always too consistant, with no changing interest to my lines at all. I bought these on a whim hoping that they would force me to loosen up in how a make my marks on the paper. They totally work! With the first use my sketches were looser and I didn't feel so confined by my pencil. Within an hour my whole sketching experience was changed. I love these things, and will only use mechanical pencils for tighter finalized drawings tht will be painted later, and other drawing task will be done with these!
