My go to

Comments about General's Charcoal Pencils:
These charcoal pencils just work really well. I have been drawing with these for over 5 years and really don't feel the need to change, even though I've sampled and tried a number of other similar products. They are consistent, you can sharpen them either manually or with an electric one. There's a broad range of values - HB up to 6B. I use toned paper and the white works well off of that. Really satisfied with this product.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

A very good pencil
from Indiana, USA
I think these are the best compressed charcoal pencils available today, and I have tried them all. They have a dry feel that is closer to actual charcoal than most compressed charcoal pencils. Most others have a waxy consistency that I do not like. Of course this is a matter of personal preference, and many prefer the waxier consistency. The only downside to the General's charcoal pencil is that the core is a bit small in diameter and easily breaks when sharpening in the normal configuration for a charcoal pencil with about a 3/4" point extension beyond the wood. Sometimes the wood is a bit hard too, so one must use a very gentle touch when sharpening these with a razor blade, especially the 6B.
A good buy!
I am very pleased with these charcoal pencils overall. I have just about every brand of charcoal pencil there is, and these did not disappoint at all.

These pencils are really nice, especially for someone just starting out using charcoal. They are nice and smooth and get really nice and dark. Plus, that white pencil has the best highlight Ive ever seen out of a pencil. Its a great addition to any artist's pencil case.

I use these charcoal pencils for my figure drawing class and they're great for shading in darker areas and allow me more precise control over marking compared to vine charcoal. I also like that it comes with its own kneaded eraser.
