I would buy this again

Comments about General's Charcoal Pencils:
I use these charcoal pencils for my figure drawing class and they're great for shading in darker areas and allow me more precise control over marking compared to vine charcoal. I also like that it comes with its own kneaded eraser.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I use the this product in sync with pastel pencils and to high light my charcoal drawing.....being a teacher, I find this is a good product, reasonably priced to recommend to students.

We use these in our Art Exhibit at Marbles Kids Museum and love them!
This is what I want
I first bought these pencils months ago and have used up the 2b and 4b ones . Primarily using them for figure and anatomy studies on newsprint paper , these work smoothly like a breeze!. This is the best deal for budget-tight artists. Other charcoal pencils I have bought are Conte a paris, Derwent tinted charcoal, Cretacolor 5.6m lead set, General Carbon Sketch, Primo Euro . I don't mind to order more of them .Pros: Cheapest, good quality both in wood and charcoal lead.Great deals overall.Cons: Boring paint job ,the letter on the body easily fade off.
Exactly what I have been looking for
from Cape Cod (MA)
I draw in pencil on toned paper and have been looking for a charcoal pencil sold singly. They only seem to come in sets and I already have enough regular drawing pencils. This single pencil was a perfect price and purchase. Thanks.
I have just recently started using charcoal pencils in my drawings. General's charcoal pencils have proven themselves with smooth and flowing qualities, putting down dark blacks and fine detail as needed. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that in a box of 12 pencils I often find at least one that has a scratchy, unusable core and I have to toss it. I imagine that's common in all charcoal pencils, so General's remains my charcoal pencil of choice.

I prefer to use these for whites, along with my pastel pencils Hard charcoal that sharpens to a point, great for fine details.

I was first introduced to charcoal back in 2006 and General's charcoal pencils happened to be one of the first. Over the past ten years, I've experimented with other types of charcoal and found some that are superior and others than are inferior. For me, General's charcoal pencils have a dual purpose: 1) for doing simple sketching or layout and 2) for doing artist work on a long drawing where I don't want deep, rich blacks. Like many charcoal pencils, General's are a little chalking but like many others I have tried. They blend really well and one can get a pretty decent range of values by using just a couple of pencils of varying grades. For the price, I think General's quality is one of the better options for any artist on a budget.
