"The Tools of Contemporary Masters"
Since 1980, Gamblin has handcrafted luscious oil colors and contemporary painting mediums that are true to historic working properties, yet safer and more permanent. All of Gamblin's oil painting materials are handcrafted at the company's wind-powered factory in Portland, Oregon. These are mediums you can trust for permanence and studio safety — from the industry leader.
Cold Pressed Linseed Oil
Pressed from flax seeds in Canada without using heat or chemicals of any kind. However, when used to thin oil colors, it increases the tendency to yellow over time.
Cold Wax Medium
A soft paste formulated to knife consistency, Gamblin Cold Wax Medium is made from naturally white unbleached beeswax, alkyd resin, and odorless mineral spirits (OMS), and is used to make oil colors thicker and more matte. It can be thinned to brush consistency by dissolving it in a small amount of OMS. The surface of paintings made with beeswax mediums will become only as hard as a beeswax candle. Adding Gamblin Galkyd to Cold Wax Medium/oil colors mix will increase the sheen and flexibility of the paint film. Use a small amount to make Galkyd Mediums more matte. Cold Wax Medium contains no oil, so it can be applied as a wax varnish over a dry oil painting.
Cold Wax Medium
A soft paste that makes oil colors thicker and more matte. Formulated to knife consistency, it’s made from naturally white unbleached beeswax, alkyd resin, and odorless mineral spirits, and can be thinned to brush consistency. It can also be used as a final varnish.
A very transparent, lightweight gelled alkyd resin formulated for transparent impasto of up to 1/4” thick. It holds marks and brush strokes, can be applied in multiple layers and does not dry as quickly as most gel mediums.
Formulated to thin oil colors and maintain strong flexible paint films, with a viscosity similar to that of a traditional dammar/refined linseed oil/turpentine painting medium. It will leave brush strokes in thicker layers and allow a longer working time (approximately three hours). Glazes are slightly less glossy than those made with traditional mediums or Galkyd.
Galkyd Medium #1
An alkyd resin painting medium that increases the fluidity of oil colors and speeds their drying time (thin layers will dry within 24 hours). Its viscosity is similar to traditional painting mediums made from linseed stand oil. It levels brush strokes, creates a strong flexible paint film, and leaves an enamel-like glossy finish.
Galkyd Slow Drying
Formulated for strength and flexibility, and to keep the surface of oil paintings open for approximately three days — a good choice for painters who blend or work wet into wet.
Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits
An excellent solvent for thinning Gamblin mediums, for general painting, and for studio and brush cleanup. It evaporates completely, leaving no residue, and the absence of the aromatic solvent component means painters can work with Gamsol five times longer than turpentine without adverse health effects.
This set includes 2 oz bottles of Galkyd, Neo Meglip, Refined Linseed Oil, Gamsol, a 37 ml tube of Galkyd Gel, and a 2 ml jar of Cold Wax Medium.
Soft, silky gel that gives body to paint, decreases viscosity, and can produce a luminous atmosphere. Base of alkyd resin, without toxic lead or other materials. Will not turn yellow or darken.
Slows down drying time. Especially useful for painters using "wet into wet" techniques. Add 10% by volume to slow down the drying time of Gamblin Galkyd painting mediums. 8 oz (237 ml) bottle.
Refined Linseed Oil
Pressed from American flax seeds, this low acid oil is about as light and pure as it gets. Use in moderation to thin oil colors, or use as an ingredient in traditional painting mediums.
Gamblin Safflower Oil is lighter in color than linseed oil, non-yellowing, and slow-drying. It is an excellent medium for passages of white and other light colors, making them sparkle and pop. Safflower oil also makes an excellent solvent-free brush cleaner during painting sessions (afterwards artists can clean brushes further with Gamsol or soap and water).
Solvent Free Fluid Medium
Eco-friendly Solvent-Free Fluid Medium gives oil paints a more fluid consistency and moderately speeds drying time.
Solvent-Free Gel Medium
Made from safflower oil and alkyd resin, eco-friendly Gamblin Solvent-Free Gel gives colors more gloss, flow, and transparency, yet holds the shape of brushstrokes. It has a moderately fast drying rate.
Heavy oil that wets pigments well. 8 oz (237 ml).
These small beads of naturally white unbleached beeswax can be used in making your own wax medium.

I recently ordered a gallon of Gamsol from Dick Blick.
from Troy, OH
I am always comfortable ordering products like Gamsol from Dick Blick because I know it will arrive safely. Blick always packages their shipments in a way that damage rarely, if ever, occurs.
Great product, no odor I can use even though I have asthma

I use stand oil to make my oil painting medium.
Great deal for cold wax
from Wilmington, NC
I mix Gamblin Cold Wax Medium with oil paint to create incredible abstract paintings. The addition of cold wax helps the oil paint to dry quicker. I lay down many layers to reach the final result then seal with cold wax. The gallon size is of course the best value especially if you can catch a special sale.

Example of layering and scraping away to achieve the feeling of encaustic without the messy melting.

Excellent product for thinning paint and for cleaning up.
Solvent Free Fluid Medium
BEWARE:This is not a glazing medium because on the bottle it says to NOT use more than 25% to oil colors.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. You've correctly stated the limitation of both Solvent-Free mediums: they should not make up more than 25% of your mixture. In general, glazes should be thinly applied, and your brush should be doing some of the work of thinning the application. Although too much of any "fat" medium can create issues with too thick an application, the Galkyd line is a better choice if you're adding more than 25% by volume. GETS THE JOB DONE!
I GAVE IT FOUR STARS BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T USE IT PRETTY QUICK AFTER OPENING THE BOTTLE, IT WILL PROBABLY SET UP AND BE UNUSABLE. BUT IT DOES MAKE PAINTING WITH OILS NICE!
