"The Tools of Contemporary Masters" Since 1980, Gamblin has handcrafted luscious oil colors and contemporary painting mediums that are true to historic working properties, yet safer and more permanent. All of Gamblin's oil painting materials are handcrafted at the company's Mediums Set — This set includes 2 oz bottles of Galkyd, Neo Meglip, Refined Linseed Oil, Gamsol, a 37 ml tube of Galkyd Gel, and a 2 ml jar of Cold Wax Medium. Cold Pressed Linseed Oil — Pressed from flax seeds in Canada without using heat or chemicals of any kind. However, when used to thin oil colors, it increases the tendency to yellow over time. 8 oz (237 ml) bottle. Cold Wax Medium — A soft paste formulated to knife consistency, Gamblin Cold Wax Medium is made from naturally white unbleached beeswax, alkyd resin, and odorless mineral spirits (OMS), and is used to make oil colors thicker and more matte. It can be thinned to brush consistency by dissolving it in a small amount of OMS. The surface of paintings made with beeswax mediums will become only as hard as a beeswax candle. Adding Gamblin Galkyd to Cold Wax Medium/oil colors mix will increase the sheen and flexibility of the paint film. Use a small amount to make Galkyd Mediums more matte. Cold Wax Medium contains no oil, so it can be applied as a wax varnish over a dry oil painting. Galkyd Gel — A very transparent, lightweight gelled alkyd resin formulated for transparent impasto of up to 1/4” thick. It holds marks and brush strokes, can be applied in multiple layers and does not dry as quickly as most gel mediums. Galkyd Lite — Formulated to thin oil colors and maintain strong flexible paint films, with a viscosity similar to that of a traditional dammar/refined linseed oil/turpentine painting medium. It will leave brush strokes in thicker layers and allow a longer working time (approximately three hours). Glazes are slightly less glossy than those made with traditional mediums or Galkyd. Galkyd Medium #1 — An alkyd resin painting medium that increases the fluidity of oil colors and speeds their drying time (thin layers will dry within 24 hours). Its viscosity is similar to traditional painting mediums made from linseed stand oil. It levels brush strokes, creates a strong flexible paint film, and leaves an enamel-like glossy finish. Galkyd Slow Drying — Formulated for strength and flexibility, and to keep the surface of oil paintings open for approximately three days — a good choice for painters who blend or work wet into wet. Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits — An excellent solvent for thinning Gamblin mediums, for general painting, and for studio and brush cleanup. It evaporates completely, leaving no residue, and the absence of the aromatic solvent component means painters can work with Gamsol five times longer than turpentine without adverse health effects. Gamvar Varnish — Synthetic resin gloss varnish developed by conservators at the National Gallery. Can be used on acrylic painting as well as oils. Includes a 5.4 oz solvent bottle and 5.4 oz resin mixture jar. Neo Megilp — Soft, silky gel that gives body to paint, decreases viscosity, and can produce a luminous atmosphere. Base of alkyd resin, without toxic lead or other materials. Will not turn yellow or darken. Refined Linseed Oil — Pressed from American flax seeds, this low acid oil is about as light and pure as it gets. Use in moderation to thin oil colors, or use as an ingredient in traditional painting mediums. Poppy Oil — Slows down drying time. Especially useful for painters using "wet into wet" techniques. Add 10% by volume to slow down the drying time of Gamblin Galkyd painting mediums. 8 oz (237 ml) bottle. Stand Oil — Heavy oil that wets pigments well. 8 oz (237 ml). Wax Pastilles — These small beads of naturally white unbleached beeswax can be used in making your own wax medium. Caution — Follow safety instructions carefully. Not suitable for use by children. Shipping restrictions apply to hazardous materials. ® Gamblin is a registered trademark. ™ The Tools of Contemporary Masters is a trademark. |
