Love Gamblin Oils; new modern colors, excellent website packed with info about pigments and materials. The free Torrit Gray is a nice touch, a useful warm gray. Their flake white replacement is a delight to use.

For the price, this is good artist grade paint. However, I must point out after doing some comparison, that the pigment load is quite weak in some colors, particularly the Cadmiums. Even though the higher pigmented paints are between 2 and 3 times as expensive as Gamblin (as of the date of this review), I think they might be a better buy for the pigment load alone. I plan on not replacing my Gamblin Cadmium colors in the future once they are used up. But, overall, these are good paints for the price.

i love how each color has its own consistency. i know that naples yellow is thicker and hansa yellow light is thinner and cobalt teal is thicker. the consistencies of the paint do not match in from different color to different color but each time the same color is purchased the consistency does not change

I don't typically use Gamblin Oils, and I most certainly will not be in the future. However, I have used a tube here or there on occasion and each time I've been disappointed. There is no problem with the color, but the consistency is terrible - like gooey caramel, not at all buttery or soft. In fact, the paint was so sticky, it was difficult to move it around or mix it with other colors. Specifically, it was the Cadmium Orange I experienced difficulty with, but I now remember using a tube of the Cad Yellow Light and it had the same working characteristics - I had to use a lot of thinner just to make the paint workable. Perhaps some artists may prefer this consistency, but I found it maddening to work with.

I use a full-size easel outside, but I needed something for the table top indoors. This is abosolutely perfect. Stores neatly. Paints are awesome and mix well. I have not viewed the DVD yet, but plan to soon. This kit is easily worth the price!

A little tip: Rather than use the Radiant colors offered--I just use the Radiant white and I make my own radiant mixtures--if I need that extra glow. All Colors I've tried show off the full potential of the characteristic of the individual pigment--something I really admire (But not everyone does). Full pigment load with tints and shades and mixes very clean.
