Gamblin Artist's Oil Colors are crafted by hand with the well-being of artists, their work, and the environment in mind. True to historic working properties, yet safer and more permanent, they combine the best traditions of the past with the latest technical innovations, giving you the freedom to create without compromise.
Made with the finest grades of pigment available (yes, there are differences), Gamblin Artist's Oils have luscious working properties, and each color possesses unique characteristics in terms of texture, undertone, and tinting strength. The range of colors includes both historically accurate paints and modern, synthetically derived hues. For everything from traditional realism to contemporary abstraction, you'll find your ideal colors within the Gamblin line.
All Gamblin Artist's Oil Paints are completely non-toxic when used as recommended. Most are made with alkali-refined linseed oil as a binder, which creates a strong, flexible paint film and yellows significantly less than cold press linseed oil, the traditional binder in oil paints. Select colors use safflower oil as a binder. Not only are both these vegetable oils completely non-toxic, they are commonly used in health and beauty products, so you can trust in their safety.
Gamblin Chromatic Black gives painters a black with energy. It grays color mixtures without making them muddy, and because it's created by mixing two perfect complements — Quinacridone Red and Phthalo Emerald — it’s a much livelier, more transparent black than carbon-based alternatives such as Ivory Black. Developed by and exclusively available from Gamblin, Chromatic Black has become a favorite of painters around the world.
Flake White Replacement
Gamblin was the first to develop Flake White Replacement, a color true to the properties of traditional Flake White but completely free of lead. Flake White Replacement offers a beautiful opalescence, a long and ropey stroke, warm colors, translucency, and a short, sharp brush mark. In addition to being lead-free, Flake White Replacement is also more permanent than Flake White, due to a slower drying time that reduces the risk of cracking.
Color Chart Note — Use this color chart as an approximation of the real color. If exact color matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.
Artists can paint solvent—free with all Gamblin Artist’s Colors by mixing them with Gamblin’s Solvent-Free Gel Medium or with moderate amounts of Gamblin Refined Linseed Oil. For cleaning your brushes consider using Gamblin’s Gamsol Solvent, the safest artist’s solvent available. Or, simply wipe away excess paint from the bristles, work in a bit of Gamblin Refined Linseed Oil, then follow with water and soap or a brush cleaner.

A staple in my paint diet
from San Francisco! CA
I've been using Gamblin oil paints for 25 years, I love the colors and quality, I really don't know what I would do without certain colors made by Gamblin. Also love Gamsol and Galkyds!
First time using Gamblin Oils
from Vista, CA
I was unable to find a desired pigment in my normal oil paint brand - M. Graham. I noticed that Gamblin is known for lower toxicity as is M. Graham. So I bought a couple tubes and really enjoy using them. Good pigment strength, nice buttery consistency. Will continue to use Gamblin when I cannot find my color of choice with M. Graham. Gamblin's manganese blue hue is a wonderful single pigment color that is beautiful in various mixes!

I've never had an issue with Gamblin oil paints. I find them to have superb chroma and buttery texture every time. This is a good choice for artist quality oil paint.
Excellent Quality Oil Color
I'm starting to transition my oil colors from student to artist grade and I'm so glad I started with Gamblin, gorgeous vibrancy and buttery texture.
Black Spinel - fantastic!
from Sykesville, MD
Black Spinel is an expensive paint. There are much cheaper blacks out there that would work just fine for most applications. But if you want to mix different shades of gray, this is the only one to get. The grays are pure grays, without some off-colors that are so common with some of the other blacks.
Radiant color paints and
from Richmond, Va.
Paints are creamy, very easy to use and perform beautifully to highlight drap areas of my paintings resulting in sparkle and freshness. I love, love Gamblin solvent-free gel and have recommend it to my many oil students. I convince them easily with a small sample to use for the first time. All are sold immediately. Thank you for making these products.
