Wonderful inks & transparent Base!
from point au roche, ny
Comments about Gamblin Artist's Colors Relief Inks:
I have used other brands (Daniel Smith, Speedbsll, etc) for my 30 years as a printmaker but am finding Gamblin inks and especially their transparent base to be more lush and easier to work with than any others. The transparent base does not need to be used with any other modifiers to get nice results - not nearly as tacky as others I have used. The colors are lovely for relief printing on wood.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

New to Gamlin Relief Ink
By Friday Howie
from Friday Harbor WA
I'm used to Daniel Smith relief ink and at first it was going well but started getting tacky out of control much sooner than DS. Had to stop about half way. Restarting didn't go well either. Didn't use any drier. But wondering if I need an extender. Is there one?

I love this ink. The quality is great. The ink rolls out smooth, and looks like satin when printed.

Best inks I have used for woodcuts. I haven't done a lot of printmaking but this is my favorite ink so far.
Superior Artist Inks!
By Prince Prints
from Meadville, PA
I have been using Gamblin inks for 5 years now, and I have been impressed with its smooth, creamy, buttery texture that enables me to get clean, consistent dark textures from my linoleum prints. The ink is easy to lay out and each can I have purchased has been of the highest quality. I conduct a lot of workshops nationally and I recommend it to all of my students as a superior, consistent ink on the marketplace.

Nice product for seasoned printers
I'm new to printmaking, and I have only used one water-soluble brand of inks before I tried Gamblin. I must say that printing with oil-based Gamblin ink is harder, but the result is fantastic. The ink is very sticky and it's not easy to spread it thinly on an inking plate. But once it's done, the ink won't dry out in minutes, like water-based, allowing you to print without hurry. This was important for me. The color is very rich and I managed to get a sharp print on a textured watercolor paper with just hands and spoon. The only downside of an oil-based ink is clean-up, it was a complete disaster. It took me almost an hour to clean a linocut block, a brayer, an inking plate, the sink and my hands. I used vegetable oil and soap wash, and didn't manage to clean the linocut block completely. Don't think it will affect furher printing, but I'm upset my pretty block is not so pretty anymore. Maybe I just need to try other options for cleaning. Anyway, I loved this product, and I understand it is perfect for some serious work, but not a beginner's quick experiments. I will keep those inks for future and can't wait to add more colors to my collection! with Best Regards, Lara

I use this ink to print T shirts using wood blocks. Works spectacularly
This is definitely the best value for money for a superior product. Richly-pigmented and long-lasting, I haven't got one bad thing to say about it. Clean-up is simple with a bit of vegetable oil.
