Since founding Gamblin Artists Colors, Robert Gamblin has wanted artists to be able to paint freely — to use color and texture without hesitation or reservation.
To do this, painters need colors that are true. True to the pigment. True to historic working properties. True to the emotion of each color. Colors that feel right under the brush and that age right on the canvas.
Gamblin 1980 Oil Colors offer artists true color and real value. This line of 48 colors offers artists a better student-grade paint, made here in America at a terrific value, from a company you can believe in.
This set gives beginning painters a thoughtfully constructed palette of luscious Gamblin 1980 Oil Colors to support any style of painting. It includes 37 ml (1.25 oz) tubes of Cadmium Yellow Light, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Phthalo Green, Ivory Black, Titanium White, and Solvent-Free Gel Medium, plus a primed, handcrafted panel made from sustainably forested North American birch.

It's really nice

This was my first time using oil paint. I'd tried Acrylic and Watercolor but I didn't like either of them. I have to say, since getting it, I'm truly hooked on oils. Gamblin is truly worthy of it's good reviews. With just the small amount of colors I had, I was able to mix a variety of different colors. I could get multiple shades of browns, purples, and pretty much any other color I tried making.I would really recommend this to people who are just dipping their toes in oil paint and trying to see if they like it. Mine came with a pre-gessoed wood panel and it made that deal all the better. Not only did I have the paints, I had something I could paint on and experiment with. The only thing I would change is that I wish it came with Burnt Umber. A lot of artists use it for the underpainting and I would've liked to try that out. But, that wasn't a big deal. I still managed to make my first oil painting just fine (it was a simple eye since I wanted to test it out). If you're considering getting this, just go ahead and get it. It's completely worth it.

Purchased these for their value and to compare working with this line versus other oil paints. I was incredibly pleased with the quality and color (not to mention the branding, as a graphic designer I appreciate the little things )Would highly recommend to both beginners and professional artists alike.

These Gamblin paints provide a great value for the wide variety of basic colors and the included solid wood canvas. This is a great gift for someone getting started or for someone who goes through a lot of basic colors.

Working Well for this Beginner

I am taking my very first Oil Painting class, and I chose these because Gamblin because it was one of the recommended paints by my the instructor. Since he has been painting with oils over 40 years I decided to trust his judgment. So far they have been working well, and they mix well together to create beautiful colors. I was even able to use them in a splatter technique that I use when glazing my pots. I have no complaints and plan to use them in all my oil paintings to come.

Good student grade oils
Fantastic paints to use.
Gamblin paints are more down to earth colors, which are normal. It does not get too glossy with the mediums. It is fantastic paints to use, especially in school. Or do the traditional painting at home or elsewhere. The paints are so easy to use and I absolutely love it. I will use it again and again.
