Since founding Gamblin Artists Colors, Robert Gamblin has wanted artists to be able to paint freely — to use color and texture without hesitation or reservation.
To do this, painters need colors that are true. True to the pigment. True to historic working properties. True to the emotion of each color. Colors that feel right under the brush and that age right on the canvas.
Gamblin 1980 Oil Colors offer artists true color and real value. This line of 48 colors offers artists a better student-grade paint, made here in America at a terrific value, from a company you can believe in.
This set gives beginning painters a thoughtfully constructed palette of luscious Gamblin 1980 Oil Colors to support any style of painting. It includes 37 ml (1.25 oz) tubes of Cadmium Yellow Light, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Phthalo Green, Ivory Black, Titanium White, and Solvent-Free Gel Medium, plus a primed, handcrafted panel made from sustainably forested North American birch.

Great product for daily paintings and exercises

I use this paint for a lot of the smaller paintings I do alla prima. It is relatively cheap and im not afraid to use lots of it. Great consistency and good intensity for the price. Loses its intensity when mixed with white and other colors quicker than the Gamblin Artists' variety. Would buy again.

Great product!! Perfect for the Alexander wet-on-wet technique...firm texture, rich color. Factor in amazing bang-for-buck, I find this product very hard to beat. Two thumbs up!
I FIND GAMBLIN TO BE A NAME TO COUNT ON. LOVE THE VIBRANT COLORS AND SMOOTH APPLICATION.

Great for the beginning and middle of paitings

I love this product for the beginning and middle of my paintings. When I'm nearing the end and adding fine detail, vivid color in the foreground, and areas being hit by the sun, I may switch to a higher quality artists oil. But, this product is 90% of the paint on my canvas every time.

Well, our art teacher suggested to choosing this Gamblin 1980 Oil Colors for some special colors which can't find out other brand name product. It means their color is very unique and easy to express beautiful color. Specially I like price for the first time trial for my kid's the first oil painting and it deserved to do it.

It's really nice

This was my first time using oil paint. I'd tried Acrylic and Watercolor but I didn't like either of them. I have to say, since getting it, I'm truly hooked on oils. Gamblin is truly worthy of it's good reviews. With just the small amount of colors I had, I was able to mix a variety of different colors. I could get multiple shades of browns, purples, and pretty much any other color I tried making.I would really recommend this to people who are just dipping their toes in oil paint and trying to see if they like it. Mine came with a pre-gessoed wood panel and it made that deal all the better. Not only did I have the paints, I had something I could paint on and experiment with. The only thing I would change is that I wish it came with Burnt Umber. A lot of artists use it for the underpainting and I would've liked to try that out. But, that wasn't a big deal. I still managed to make my first oil painting just fine (it was a simple eye since I wanted to test it out). If you're considering getting this, just go ahead and get it. It's completely worth it.
