These canvases feature the finest quality pure cotton duck, medium textured, and double-primed with acid-free acrylic gesso for use with oil or acrylic painting. All sizes larger than 24" x 36" include single or double bracing for added support. Canvases are carefully stapled on standard stretcher strips and have a ¾" profile.

Note — Canvases smaller than 8" × 10" are stapled on the side of the canvas. All larger sizes are stapled on the back of the canvas.

This is a medium grade canvas that worked great for the subject I was painting. Frederix prestretched canvas is such a dependable product--I like no surprises with the canvas when painting. Blick's price was great for single canvases --not just for a "lot" of 6. That was really appreciated.

I am a beginner acrylic painter and used these canvas' for a painting set i was making for a friend as a gift. The canvas worked out great, only issue was I thought the way the canvas was folded at the corners was a little odd. Only an experienced painter would question them. But all in all, a good value, and I will use them again!

I use these canvases to oil paint on. I have never had a problem with this brand. The quality has always been reliable. I have used some other brands that were not properly prepared and were very difficult to work on. So far,I have not had a problem with these.

Constant warping issue

Fredrix seems to have a quality-control issue with these Red Label canvases. The wood seems like a good-quality stretcher, but every canvas without a middle brace (any canvas 24 x 30 in. and under) has warped on me (bought in 2006 and 2007). This is unacceptable for a pre-stretched canvas for which I am paying a premium for not building myself. I am not sure if Fredrix had this issue for long, but I was amused to find an old warped Fredrix canvas in a professor's barn when a multitude of others (non-Fredrix) seemed fine.

Furthermore, even if these canvases did not warp, the vast majority of pre-stretched canvas cannot be recommended for serious oil or acrylic painting, maybe just studies. The canvas is simply too thin (7 oz for the Fredrix, like most), and such a weight is never recommended for long-lasting works (the heavier the canvas, the longer it lasts--12-15 oz is considered ideal for cotton).

The value would be good compared to similar products, but because the smaller ones (or most in this Red-Label line) tend to warp, it can hardly be considered such.
