After a previous 2-star review of this product, I came across the same Fredrix Red Label stretched canvas in the studio, left over from a previous order. It was made in Mexico and the quality was excellent. That's why I placed another order and then got really poor quality in the latest shipment. The second batch was made in China.
It's worth checking the package to see where these canvases were made. Mexico- 5 stars
China- 2 stars

The canvas corners are not true folded corners, but pattern cut and so raw edges can lift up. Indifferently assembled. The inside edge of the stretcher is neither beveled nor sanded, so you get a shadow rim on your canvas 1.5" inside the perimeter edge.
Some dents in the edges are covered by the large label.
I wish I had known all this before I bought them.

This canvas is excellent for my oil paintings. I use it all the time and will keep ordering from Dick Blicks.This canvas is good for smooth flow of the oil and Acrylic paint.I cannot find canvas this large at such a low price where I live. Thank you Blicks.

I have used Fredrix Red Label Pre-Stretched Canvas many times over many years and they are consistently high quality. I searched the whole internet and could not find a better quantity discount on these great canvases, than at Dick Blick. I was so happy when I got my recent order of canvases that I set to work painting right away! I use acrylics and like to work fast and these canvases are so fantastic they make painting a breeze! I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants consistent quality at a reasonable price!

These are the next best thing to linen. I'm not seeking smoothness in a surface but an interesting, attractive texture when it shows through my oil paint.

I bought a bunch of these when I started oil painting to learn on. Fredrix is the only brand which puts good quality gesso on their canvases. These are good quality for the money, however I consider these a hobbyist's canvas-the canvas is fairly thin, and the texture is too prominent for painting subjects like portraits, in my opinion. If only Fredrix would sell a truly professional, heavy 12 oz. canvas with a medium-smooth texture, my search would be over. Are you listening Fredrix??!!
