Do not purchase the Fredrix Canvas Pliers
from Ketchikan, AK
I had read the comments concerning these pliers before purchasing. Thought I'd give them a chance. The handle spring did not "pop out", in fact it works quite well. But the pliers did not grip the canvas well enough to properly stretch the canvas. The cute looking teeth just slid.I am a retired maintenance worker with very good hand strength.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Great Canvas Pliers

These pliers are great for gripping that hard to hold canvas and get it real tight. I can't imagine life without these pliers.

We have been using these for several years now, stretching about 150 canvases with them. Just recently they have begun to stop working. The bolt holding them together has loosened too much. We hammered it back in. That seemed to help. Also, the plates seem to have worn out so they're not gripping the canvas anymore. We took a file to them to try to roughen them up again. That helped. Also, the handles hurt our hands when stretching canvas so we taped a rag to them.Clearly, they aren't perfect, but they're better than the more expensive Frederic's. we need to buy a new pair now. Hope the new pair is better than the ones people are talking about in the other reviews!

Not bad for the money
By Jolly Jimbo
I've stretched several hundred prints flawlessly using these pliers with my only complaint being that I am unable to locate replacement springs. This is the only part that has failed on me. I think the people that are breaking them don't know how to stretch canvas. Let's see... which is stronger - steel or cloth?
