Welcome to dickblick
The Flexible Combo Lamp provides an incandescent bulb and a fluorescent bulb in one lamp. Use them together for a light source, or use them separately to simulate the conditions under which finished artwork will be viewed.
The lamp attaches to a drawing board, table, or bench with a heavy-duty adjustable metal clamp. An electrical outlet located on the lamp's base is ideal for plugging in a glue gun, heat gun, or other tools (480 watt maximum). Both a 22 watt (8" circline) fluorescent tube and a 60 watt incandescent bulb are supplied. The swing arm has a 38" reach (almost 1 meter).
120V. 60 Hz. UL listed.

Flexible Combo Lamp Review
from Albuquerque, New Mexico
Comments about APCO Flexible Combo Lamp:
This is a great paint to use when either painting or drawing the lighting is brilliant, very strong and true. And it also wide range if working on larger projects or canvases. The fact that it is flexible makes it all the more easier to adjust light or working stations throughout the area. The only issue i had with this lamp is circular light that gives of a cool white. it has issues turning on at times do to the connection. GREAT LAMP!!!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

We do monumental designing and typically work on large format hand drawn sheets. This lamp provides excellent lighting exactly where we need it.

I use the lamp for hand embroidery which requires delicate hand and eye coordination.
Had to return it. Different story if it had worked.
from New England
The fluorescent part of the lamp did not work. I tried replacing the starter but it didn't solve the problem. Should have been tipped off as soon as I opened the box. It was scuffed and looked like it was a return. My previous lamp lasted for about 25 years and it shows. The price was right for this one so I bought it. It is unusable as is so I sent it back.I am rethinking my need for this kind of light. I believe I will explore LED lights. Every penny saved in the studio is a good thing.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Good lamp, but one reservation
from Natick, MA
This lamp is well built. The clamp works and does not slide or wiggle. The action when repositioning it is reassuring.A big problem I had though was in installing the florescent ring bulb. It's difficult because the receptacle is on a flexible cord that snakes up inside the lamp housing and shade. It moves when you try to plug the bulb into the socket! I was ready to return it because it seems like a defect or design flaw. I eventually got it connected but it's not a solid connection. I think it's just cheap design/construction. Otherwise, it's a good lamp.

Lamp will not stay in place
By Sea Goat
from Rhode Island
I just installed this lamp and it will not stay in place - it always settles in one position about 12" off of my drafting table. The light is great, the lamp isn't. A definite return.

Waste of money
By Donna the Weaver
from Nashville, TN
Boughtt this lamp last weekend at Blick in Atlanta. Out of the box and onto a table and five minutes later the screw breaks off that holds the longest arm on. After rigging some clamps to maintain the height, the shade constantly droops because it is too heavy for the spring action. THEN, while rigging again with clamps ( I REALLY tried to make this work) the ring bulb blows after maybe one hour of being on. WASTE. OF. MONEY. Poorly designed and poor quality.

Update of my review
By Crafting in the Dark
I felt I owed it to Dick Blick to update my review of this lamp. After I wrote my first review I was contacted by their customer support and offered either a replacement lamp or my money back. I opted for the replacement. I'd used this lamp for six months already, so I felt that they were going way beyond the usual level of customer service. This replacement lamp has a plastic starter, which I was easily able to remove and replace. The lamp worked perfectly, but since I was a little afraid of the high heat of the incandescent bulb so near the plastic starter, I replaced the bulb with a cooler alternative bulb. It's been working very well for me since last July and I'm very pleased with it. I'm even more pleased with the Dick Blick company and wouldn't hesitate to order any item from them.

Update on: Quality control issues
By Jeweler and sculptor
from Oakland, CA
I needed to replace this lamp after the flourescent stopped working, so I went to another art store in the area, confirmed that their lamps had metal starters, and purchased one for about the same price I paid at Blick. Now the interesting part: Both lamps are made by APCO. The one from Blick is model LC539 and the other one is model LC540, but according to the APCO website the only difference in the LC540 is that there's a power outlet in the base. Other than that the two lamps *should* be the same. This is a really excellent lamp other than the bad starter; if you get one home and find it has a plastic starter I suggest you take it back and request a replacement. Here's the APCO site describing the lamps: http://www.affordaproducts.com/combo.htmAgain - it would be nice to see a comment from Blick, maybe they can check their inventory to see what they have.
Merchant response: We apologize for the issues you encountered with this product. At Blick we take our customer’s reviews very seriously. Based on the comments on this page we have done some additional checking and can confirm that the Flexible Combo Lamp currently in our inventory is model LC540.While we believe the issues commented on were isolated incidents, customers who receive defective items should contact our Customer Service department via email or by calling (800) 723-2787 and we will work with you to rectify the situation.
