My Favorite Journal
Comments about Fabriano Artist's Journal:
I absolutely love the Fabriano paper so I knew I'd love it in journal form. The two colors of paper look really unique. I'm new to journal drawing but I have found I have specific requirements and have bought several journals, in an attempt to fill those requirements. I personally, like that the cover is thick paper and not hard bound. It keeps the weight down and the journal open when I'm drawing. I'm left handed and so many journals just will not work, for me. I find that I take my time more and relax into drawing when I draw in this journal. It's a great buy for the price too.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Gorgeous paper! Well loved product
from My studio, Newcastle Australia
I've used a fabriano sketch journal before and, though the cardboard cover doesn't hold up well to robust travel the paper is delicious to work on in pencil, pen, ink and watercolour. I found my old journal and craved a new one - Blick was one of the few sites I could find that actually offered them for sale. I bought two. When I finish them I will buy more. My old one I had rebound in hardback once I finished it.

Absolutely love them
By Lizard the Paper Addict
from Muncie, IN
I bought two of these and I am so happy I did. I was looking for a decently sized notebook that had a large number of pages...and then I stumbled upon these. After scouring the internet for any notebook that fit these requirements, it was a miracle finding these. They fit the build of my wants and are great quality. Even more than that, they were a steal! I couldn't find a product that can hold a candle to this in quality and price. I'm so completely satisfied. Buy them! Buy all of them!

I used wood ( DB Birch panel cut to size ) covered with cloth, and joined the blank book to it. For a custom blank Book.

deceptively sturdy paper
Initially I wasn't impressed with the paper in this book for watercolors; it's thin and appears to be quite flimsy. However after working in the book for a few days I've come to love it. Yes, it does buckle like mad, but the it does not stain (with watercolors), and you can put uncounted layers of color on it without the paper breaking down in the least. I've come to think of it as miracle paper! I also like it for colored pencil. Re: the paper cover - I don't find that a drawback at all, and i love the slightly larger than 4" x 6" size.

Almost perfect - Read reviews first

Everything about this sketchbook/journal is perfect except the cover. I thought it looked like a normal hardcover in the picture, so I didn't think to check reviews. It's not hardcover, it's made out of about average thickness paper, only a little thicker than the paper itself inside. Not sure if over 20 dollars is worth a paperback... Though it does have more paper than most, and everything else about it is really nice, it's certainly quality made, the paper is very nice, it has a bookmark as well like most actual hardcover sketchbooks.Luckily I wanted to get this one to use as a daily journal for writing and sketching, like something I would do in the morning and night so I shouldn't need to travel with it much, I fear it would get ruined easily with the flimsy cover. I also bought a few other brands of smaller travel books, like Hand Book the tiny Pebtalic, which are just great with nice hard hard covers, but not as much paper like this one has. Which is good for long term use.All in all, it's worth it if it fits your uses, but be wary of the flimsy cover if that affcets how you will use it. Thinking of adding something like the person above, to strengthen it, but not sure how to do that without ruining the aesthetic.

Superb drawing paper, flimsy book covers
By Judi Demar
from Madison, WI
Having just discovered the drawings of Seurat, in which he took advantage of the weave of Ingrès paper to produce shimmering luminosity in conté, I sought a sketchbook with Ingrès paper. What I like: the paper, which comes in both white and cream, and is fairly tough, standing up well to a lot of erasing and even to pen-and-ink drawings, which do not significantly buckle after water is applied; the prominent tooth of the paper, which produces the desired "Seurat" effects; the dimensions (roughly 6.5 x 8.5 inches); the quantity of paper (190 pages); a ribbon bookmark, which saves your place for your next sketch; and the binding, which is strong, yet allows the sketchbook to open almost flat throughout. What lowered my rating from 5 to 4 stars were the flimsy covers, which are made of farily lightweight paper and bend easily; thus, they do not protect the inner leaves of paper very well. To solve this problem, I have glued some sturdy cardboard onto the front and back covers, and painted it in a similar Indigo blue. While not as aesthetically pleasing as the original Fabriano cover, I now have a near-perfect sketchbook for my needs.
My all time favorite journal!
from Los Angeles CA
I am a mixed media artist and have used the Fabriano journals for years.Even though the paper is quite thin, I gesso, collage, paint, write, add photos and they always hold up.They travel with me all over the world; wonderful elegant strong little books with the attractive bookmark.I miss the one that had all the colors, but they are still my favorite journal.Thank you BLICKS for still producing them! I have just ordered my tenth one, each book filled with artistic memories!

I adore this journal. 2 colors of paper, just the right size- not too big, and not too small. Also the paper (almost) never bleeds through to the other side of the paper. I've had it happen to me twice, the first time was when I dribbled an entire small puddle of ink on my paper by accident and it barely showed through, and the other time was when I tried it with copic markers, at a level of markering that would have typically ruined several sheets of paper underneath my drawing, but all it did was bleed through to the other side of my paper. The outside doesn't look particularly pretty any more, but its not falling to pieces and its protecting the pages inside so Im not too concerned. All in all an excellent sketchbook for mixed media!
