Faber-Castell's Pitt Pastel Pencils are very suitable for lines, shading, and delicate color transitions, and also for extended areas. Use them for sketches, studies, portraits, still-lifes, and landscape drawings.
They give a smooth flow of color without being used up too rapidly. Colors are rich in pigment, allowing dense shading. They do not change on fixing or exposure to light.
Wood-cased Pitt Pastel Pencils do not dirty the fingers, and the leads are free of oils. They can easily be wiped to merge areas of colors, which means that they must then be fixed to protect the drawing.
Pencils are pre-sharpened. Individual lightfastness ratings are printed on each pencil's casing.

Faber-Castell pencils are made using environmentally safe, high-quality materials and low-pollution processes. The company uses only wood from its own reforestation and soil conservation project in Brazil to manufacture pencils.
Faber-Castell grows its own trees on land that was once denuded and deforested, subject to soil erosion. The company even recycles the waste products from manufacturing pencils to increase the fertility of the soil.

Great drawing tool
By J loves art
These pastel pencils are recommended by some of the drawing teachers at the art school I attend for portraits and figure work. They lay down color smoothly and can be sharpened to a good point. You can get a red chalk like drawing using the Venetian Red or a good 3 color drawing combining it with the black and white pastel pencils. #sweepstakes
I would buy these again

First time trying pastels and so far I love them. Smooth and easy to blend. Adding detail with these pencils is easy. Kind of wish I would have ordered a larger set.

Whats not to love
By Steve M
from North Central Indiana
Got them, then I waited to open them for more than a week. Wanted the time to enjoy, which I did. No good to just open the package and finger them and not have the time to use or test run them.I have wanted these for so long and now They are in my hot grubby hands. I will need some practice to sharpening these but it will come with time.
I would buy this product again and again.

Nice pencils, but ...
from New Castle, DE
Purchased the tin of 12 pencils. I loved the clean, bright colors and the low-mess of pencils over traditional pastels. My problem is finding a good way to sharpen the pencils. I am not a fan of using an knife blade to sharpen pencils, but so far, no sharpener I've tried has worked on these pencils! Not just the pastel core, but the wood casing. I've tried Faber-Castell, Pro-Art, Staedtler, General's and some small, silver metal hand sharpeners I bought at an art supply store, and nothing really works.
Merchant response: Thank you for reaching out! We're sorry to hear that these pencils aren't sharpening well, and we'd like to work with you to determine why that is so we can replace them if needed. We hope you'll give us a call at 1-800-933-2542 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Product Specialists are available weekdays from 8am to 5:30pm CST, and they're happy to troubleshoot!
