Faber-Castell's Pitt Pastel Pencils are very suitable for lines, shading, and delicate color transitions, and also for extended areas. Use them for sketches, studies, portraits, still-lifes, and landscape drawings.
They give a smooth flow of color without being used up too rapidly. Colors are rich in pigment, allowing dense shading. They do not change on fixing or exposure to light.
Wood-cased Pitt Pastel Pencils do not dirty the fingers, and the leads are free of oils. They can easily be wiped to merge areas of colors, which means that they must then be fixed to protect the drawing.
Pencils are pre-sharpened. Individual lightfastness ratings are printed on each pencil's casing.

Faber-Castell pencils are made using environmentally safe, high-quality materials and low-pollution processes. The company uses only wood from its own reforestation and soil conservation project in Brazil to manufacture pencils.
Faber-Castell grows its own trees on land that was once denuded and deforested, subject to soil erosion. The company even recycles the waste products from manufacturing pencils to increase the fertility of the soil.

A great artist grade pastel pencil!
from Fort Worth, TX
I use these pastel pencils a lot. I use these when I need a harder point, though they are in no way "scratchy" or rough on the paper. They just keep a hard point longer, which is great!
THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IVE EVER PURCHASED MY ARTIST PENCILS ONE AT A TIME. I LIKE THIS WAY BECAUSE I GET THE SPECIFIC COLOR PENCIL I WANT AND NEED WITHOUT PAYING A BIG PRICE FOR SETS THAT HAVE COLORS I NEVER USE IN MY COLORING. THE FABER-CASTELL PITT PASTEL PENCILS ARE A FANTASTIC BUY AT DICK BLICKS PRICE. THEY HAVE VERY VIBRANT COLOR LAY DOWN WITHOUT PRESSING HARD ON THE PENCIL. THEY DONT CRUMBLE BAD, DONT SMEAR, AND DONT COLOR FADE. I LOVE THESE PENCILS AND USE THEM DAILY.

I can do it all
from Columbia, SC
I've used pastels for years and was intrigue to know that pastel pencils existed. I was very excited about using them. They are amazing. Not only can I do small pictures but large ones as well. The only thing negative about the product is if you use them a lot be prepared to replace them. I have a couple of stubs from drawing the whole weekend long. LOL!

Faber Casteel pastel pencils
I use these for details. They work well.
Good Reliable Pencils
from San Antonio, Texas
I am new to pastels so I have experimented with different pastel types. These pencils are safe to use. They come in a variety of colors and you can order individuals from Blick when you need more. They sharpen very well and do not break easily when sharpening. They are numbered and there is a list you can look up the numbers to tell you exactly what color is defined by the number. I personally would prefer if the color name was printed on the pastel pencil like they have on their colored pencils.
I haven't used them yet but from what I have experimented with looks promising.
from Redmond, OR
Nice for the price.....Nicely pigmented and very usable.
The pastel pencil set is a great addition to my other soft pastels because the pencils allow me to add small details as needed. The Faber - Casteel pencils have lots of pigment - great colors.

Just what I needed!
i create portraits in chalk pastel so having a pastel in a pencil form has been a God send. Should have bought this item years ago. I bought a few pencils from the Faber Castell and a few others from Stabilo- the Carbothellos. They both perform well and I can't really discern a difference between them even though the Carbothellos are cheaper. The Faber Castell do not have the toxic warning that the Carbothellos do , so I feel better using them. The only thing I wish that the Faber Castells had is a fully colored pencil barrel like the Carbothellos. i can't tell indigo from black by looking at the small band of indicator color at the bottom of the pencil.
