Recently I purchased several 12 color sets of these to use with classes of elementary school students. Blick was very helpful in providing information about their products before I placed my order. Because of the age of the students, and the fact the several of them have special needs, it was important to select materials rated as nontoxic by AP. Thus I bought this brand rather that Carb-Othello, which I have previously used for my own artwork.The Faber-Castell pencils arrived right on schedule. Yesterday I enjoyed testing them and developing a lesson for the students. The pencils handle well, going on smoothly and blending nicely. The selection of colors in the 12 color box is a bit odd. There are several shades of reddish brown, but no alizarin or deep brown. When I placed my order, I supplemented the boxes with flesh tones from open stock. I wish I had also ordered some open stock pinks and browns.

The customer service was great. I received my order much quicker than I expected. It was cheaper to buy these pencils online than go to Hobby Lobby which was the only place in town that carries them. So far, I've been pleased with the pencils themselves. I'm a dilettante, so its impossible for me to give any meaningful, artistic feedback, except to say I'm having a fantastic time using them. They seem to keep a point well and have been easy to use.

I use this product to do the initial lay out of my pastel paintings and help cover or finish when a very fine line or small area needs covering.

A must-have for pastel artists! i used it on sanded paper and got amazing realistic results. I would recommend it highly to any pastel artist who likes details and textures in their work.

I decided to use these pastels for a few portraits and when I picked them up I thought the price for these things were too much. In fact Faber- Castell has overpriced these pencils, which I think is a poor quality about them. Once I started using them I started to find more and more qualities about them that satisfied my expectations. I think these pastels are quite wonderful and I do recomend these to anyone willing enough to try them.

To each his own ... I purchased this brand over others because of the reviews. These pastel pencils are horrible. They are too hard and do not blend well. I thought they might be good for detail work but they bite for that as well. It seems as though if you do not have the pencil at just the right angle it doesn't do much at all. It was a total waste of money for me.

This product is perfect for what I needed. I make hand made cards and a lot of the images I paint are small so using pencils is just ideal.

These are actually really great and a great price too per pencil! I have my complaints though, number one is how hard would it be for Faber Castell to print the name of the color on the pastel pencil!! I mean really, something has to be done from them about that, how are you supposed to remember the pastel pencil color's name to order the same color again, Faber Castell needs to get themselves in check about that. I like the range in colors and the entire look and feel of each pencil it does give good amount of color per stroke like I like it to for my Pastel Portrait work. Overall, a good Pastel Pencil there are some other brands that will rear the same results but this is a great price, and a huge plus is buying them as individual pencils, I tend to not use most of the colors in a set so I just buy the colors I need and make my own.

I use two other pastel pencil brands and thought I would try out these. I was blown away with their color values and range as well as their unique vibrancy that holds up very well. Their texture is beautiful and is great for a varied working technique. They combine well with the other brands I use (Derwent, CarbOthello, and Prismacolor). They are a great addition to my pencils and in a couple week's time I've used them predominantly in my work. They spread well on larger distances and I don't have to sharpen them as often as my other pencils which is a wonderful bonus! The only downside is that for some reason, I cannot find a pencil sharpener that sharpens them well. I have five sharpeners that just doesn't like to do the job so I've been sharpening them with a knife. I do know that each of my other pencils all require a particular sharpener so I probably just haven't found the right one for these yet. Overall though, an absolutely wonderful product!
