Albrecht Dürer pencils contain the highest quality pigments for unsurpassed lightfastness. Color laydown is buttery smooth, and blending is effortless when wet. Color effects become permanent when dry.

Pencils are manufactured with extra-thick 3.8 mm leads that are break-resistant and fully water soluble. These leads provide sharp, fine lines and superior point retention.

Leads are housed in barrels of premium California cedar wood with SV (secure-all) bonding to strengthen the lead and help prevent breakage. Pencils are pre-sharpened.

Albrecht Dürer Watercolor Pencils are available in 120 brilliant colors that are part of a unique color matching system that encompasses all Faber-Castell art and graphic products. Match the color index numbers of any two Faber-Castell products for color compatibility. Use them with other Faber-Castell pencils and drawing products in mixed media projects.

I've tried all of the different brands of watercolor pencils and these are my favorite. They're very creamy and can almost look like paint even when used dry. I wasn't a big fan of the metallic though. It was hard and the color would barely come off the pencil with very little "metallic" effect.

These pencils blend extremely well. I use them for collage and painting my faces. I won't buy any other brand but this again. I have tried many others but these, as well as, Inktense are the very best in the market.

I had a final fashion portfolio to work on for school. I was not happy with the results I achieved with prismacolor markers, so I read a few reviews of these watercolor pencils and decided to bite the bullet and order the full set. I am so happy I did. They're very easy to use, both as a watercolor wash, and directly as pencil onto paper - the color is so vibrant. The fact that they can be used as a pencil and also as a paint make them very versatile. I'm in love!

The anniversary box is substantial and the magnetic lid stays put. The pencils give a variety of line and shade applications. When several colors are applied in layers, they melt into beautiful blends.

This is a very nice medium for a beginner learning to do watercolor sketches.
It is less messy and easier to control than regular watercolor
paint in tube.

I have tried just about every artist quality, colored pencil available. Unlike some other brands, the color of these pencils stays true (mostly) even after they have had water applied. They also hold a sharp point better than most (Stadler may be an exception on this point) other watercolor pencils. They are color matched with Faber's oil pencils, pastels, markers, & pens - and can be used wet with them if you are carefull.

I did a quick test comparing these to my Aquarelles, and they beat them so easily. Compared to the studio watercolour pencils, these artist pencils just feel really generous when laying down strokes, but you can still do fine detail work. The pencil is much smoother than the studio pencils- even after only a few strokes with the Durers, the Aquarelles feel skinny and stingy. When laying water over the top, it feels lovely and silky. The colours are much more rich and complex as well- I tested two very similar colours (almost the same on the barrels of the pencils) against each other, and the burgundy of the Aquarelle seemed quite flat against the Durer's tone and hue, which seemed both warmer and brighter. I can't think of anything that I would change about these pencils.
