Welcome to dickblick
The Castell 9000, a genuinely classic pencil, was launched by Count Alexander von Faber-Castell in 1905. Over the years, the 9000's quality and finely graduated range of hardness degrees have made it a favorite of artists and illustrators.
The Castell 9000 is the ideal pencil for every technical or artistic application, with break-resistant leads that are fully bonded to their casings.
Since 1905, this top quality pencil with superior black leads, made of very finely ground graphite and clay, has been a favorite among artists, as well as for precision, technical drafting.

Comments about Faber-Castell 9000 Pencils:
How I use the products is begin using it on paper and doodle! I bought various different products from this site so I'm not sure which product it wants me to talk about. Most of which are for drawing so I'll begin with my markers are capable of giving good results and my pencils are already what I expected from them. All is good but for the markers, their ink cartridge seem to run out more quickly than your usual marker. Another is their cost since it is on the pricey side.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Excellent pencils. Holds a fine point well.

I use these pencils all the time.
Very dependable , high quality pencils.
These are great brushes! I have been experimenting with different hair types. I find them to have more bounce than sable but not as rough as bristle. They do not lose shape if cleaned with care.
Best quality for best prize

Excellent drawing graphite

I use this for thumbnails, detailed drawings and sketches for hyper realistic drawing. There's no annoying sheen to it and the dark pencil is truly dark. I'm taking The Reality Drawing challenges and these pencils keep their points, lay down smooth, and erase very clean.
The best pencils I have found in 69 years. Fast service.

To the Gulag
By Alex Solzhenitsyn
Faber pencils are the finest writing utensils in the world. Faber started making pencils in 1660. An interesting fact about Faber Graphite Pencils is that the graphite was mined in Siberia shipped by sled to a river then floated to the Indian Ocean and then shipped around Africa to Belgium. During the Communist Revolution in Russia one could receive a prison sentence for possessing a "Western Luxury" Faber Graphite Pencil of from 5 to 10 years. Ironically he Soviet Union could not even produce a pencil with all the ubiquitous materials at their disposal. Protectionism,Socialism,Communism and Fascism all the same tree just at different stages of growth. All these Economic systems can only destroy and build nothing but Energy Serfdom, Universal Poverty and National Discontent. Faber is a glorious example of building a great product at a fair price and one will succeed in free and open markets.
