Broke during the first use, several arrived defective
By Rebecca Cornelius
from Potomac, MD
Comments about Etching/Drypoint Needles and Scribes:
I bought 40 etching tools to try the tessellation lesson for middle schools and more than half of the plastic holders broke in the first use. The etching tools would not stay in and 3 of the 40 came defective (without the ball in the center to hold the blade in). Many of these were useless and I had to finish the project quickly because it was not as easy as it seemed on the Blick site.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Carbide Point Scribe...on point!
By Art by Goski

I purchased the Carbide Point Scribe and Diamond Point Scribe. Although I occasionally use the Diamond, I use the Carbide almost exclusively for my drypoint and etching. It is easy to grip and I've experienced no fatigue or callousing, even after hours of use. It has a light touch and has stayed sharp, even after months of daily use. DB also has a great price on both tools compared to other printmaking equipment retailers. P.S. I have recommended the Carbide Point Scribe to several of my printmaking pals and they love it, too! #sweepstakes

Fine lines and tiny details made easy with the Carbine Point Scribe
Great Tool for Etching!
This tool has been a lifesaver for me in etching and drypoint! I use this over all other tools almost exclusively (occasionally I use a diamond point tool). It's got a light touch and does not hurt the hand, even after hours of use. I've been using this tool 3 to 4 times per week for hours at a time over several months now and it has not needed to be sharpened. Great price, too. I highly recommend this tool!

A good start for someone who wants to try drypoint but doesn't want to invest in a more expensive tool. I wrapped tape around the center for a better grip.
Great, basic tool - the only needles I use

DB has the best price on these needles that I have found. They are a basic tool, one that ties printmakers today to those who've been scratching images onto a plate in order to make prints since printmaking began. Because I use dura-lar plates, these needles last forever. Newbies find them immediately accessible as well.
New to drypoint.
By Sasha Barker
I am new to drypoint. I feel that this tool will help me realize if it is something I wish to pursue without breaking the bank.
from Dayton, OH
I'm in a printmaking class this semester and my teacher recommended buying this etching needle above others, for its durability and ease for making smooth lines. I have never used an etching needle before but I do think this one is superior, the lines it creates are smooth, light when I want them to be and easily darker and I don't have to go over anything to the point of exhaustion.
