The Escoda Versatil synthetic Kolinsky brush is the modern-day alternative to natural Kolinsky.
Utilizing a carefully selected custom blend of uniquely patterned synthetic fibers, these short-handled or long-handled brushes achieve everything artists expect from the finest natural hair brush.
Available in a variety of shapes and sizes, the Versatil provides great water retention, a firm spring, and a sharp, fine point, plus enhanced durability and a more consistent shape over the life of the brush.
Rigger, Series 1549
The Rigger is a long, full-bellied, pointed round brush shape with large color capacity that was originally designed for painting the rigging of ships.
Long and Short Handles — Long handles are recommended for easel style painting, while short handles are recommended for table-top painting where the artwork lies flat, especially with water media.

Comments about Escoda Versatil Round:
Given Escoda's reputation, the prior reviews and the price I was paying, I was expecting more quality in the brush. The brush I received had a bent bristle because it got caught between the plastic sleeve and the ferrule. While this didn't affect the brush's performance, it is a visual annoyance. Dick Blick suggested washing the brush with bar soap to help realign the bristles. While washing it with brush soap to realign the bristles, the brush lost a few bristles during the process. Washing with brush soap did help, but there is still a slight bend to the bristle which will pop up every now and then. To Dick Blick's credit, they did offer me a coupon or to replace the brush.Performance wise, the brush has a good feel (soft, but not squishy), nice point and snap. However, I would say the same about the Loew-Cornell Ultra Round which costs half the price. If you're looking for a synthetic brush with a surprising amount of water capacity, a nice point and snap, I would recommend the Princeton Neptune or Raphael Soft Aqua.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Great product for the price
By Lucy Lu
The Escoda Versatil brushes are as close to the real deal you are going to get. The prices are very fair and work great. I got a size 20 and 14,round the 20 has such a great tip it can do a lot of work smaller brushes do.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
My new favorite brush !
This brush has become my go-to brush. The hairs are a bit longer than most, allowing for more fluid , longer strokes, and it's ability to hold a fine point makes detailed work easy- no need to switch to a different brush.

Comments about Escoda Versatil Rigger:
It holds a lot of water and it's tip is flexible so that you can create several different strokes.
from Tacoma, WA
This brush holds and extraordinary amount of water and color which allows for single stroke paint application. With its long bristles, it also makes beautiful sideway strokes and lovely leaf shapes. Since the tip is pointed, a small amount of paint can be placed as needed.

Not what I expected
from Brunswick, ME
Comments about Escoda Versatil Flat Wash:
A good flat brush fir watercolor should come to a crisp edge that allows you to paint thin lines and into tight corners. These brushes just get furry and bushy. I have other brushes made by Escoda which are great, in the Perla and Prado lines, but I was very disappointed by these--I returned them.
Merchant response: Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us. The wash brushes tend to be thicker with the goal of holding the maximum amount of water or paint, and we're sorry if this isn't what you were looking for. I have a #12 and have used it for several paintings. It feels like quality. It has a very sharp point if you hold correct. It is one of my best brush's. It can easily be used for whole paintings. Great snap back. No slop. The feel is incredible.
Great travel brush
from Strafford, MO
I was in pressed with this brush. It holds a good amount of water and retains a nice tip. The compact size makes it easy to carry along in my travel watercolor kit. I look forward to using this brush on my next travel sketching trip.
