I have a set of 1214s and find I use the #12 The most. I went to a Charles Reid workshop and most of his students use the set . Very happy that I've found these brushes and use them in my studio as well as plein air.

I purchased a #4 for travel. I had a similar experience as another reviewer. Once the initial gum was washed out the brush would not maintain a point. I could not even close/recap the brush (after it dried) without catching the hairs. I tried a few times to re-wet the hairs and give a good flick of the wrist to snap the hairs to a point. It maintained when wet, but as it dried the hairs just splayed out. I understand the brushes are handmade and there may be some bad ones in the bunch. This bad one was returned. Maybe next time I'll get a superb brush. I'm a little hesitant because I had to pay for the return shipment of a defected brush. That's money wasted.

I use this travel brush with my pan sets inside and outside of the studio. It's much better than the brushes that come with most professional pan sets. Pigment and water holding capabilities are the best I've ever experiences. When using this brush painting becomes a joy as the paint flows effortlessly onto the paper. I've had this brush for over a year now and it still has a like new point. Highly recommend these brushes for studio and plein air work. Absolutely beautiful craftmanship.

These brushes not only look good but they perform well. I am constantly reaching out for the #4 brush for painting in small spaces. They will certainly be useful when I travel overseas.

I've been using the #6, 8 and 10 for a full year and love them. I've taken them up and down the California coast, into Gold Country, Wine Country and spent several months in France and Italy with them. I initially wanted them for travel but like them so well I use them all the time now. The first brush I reach for is the #10 because the point is so fine I don't often need anything smaller. I do dry them carefully before storage and recommend that. Great brushes!

I use the Escoda 1214 travel brush as part of my travel/plein air kit. Altho I have other brand travel brushes i find myself reaching for my Escoda every time I paint. It has a lovely point, snaps back to a point and holds a substancial amount of water. When the cover is attached as a handle the brush is as balanced and feels as good in my hand as regular length studio brushes.
The compact size makes it super easy to carry in a travel kit where size and weight are important.
The only complaint I have for the brush is the small hole in the cover isnt sufficent to allow air to circulate and quickly dry the brush. In fact, the reason I ordered this brush was a replacement for my previous Escoda 1214 brush that I had used, put the cover on while the brush was damp and mold invaded and severely damaged the hairs to the extent that the brush wasnt useable. So, if you do decide to buy this wonderful bruah do remember to allow the brush to dry before putting the cover on, or if you are painting out in the field remember to take the cover off as soon as possible to allow the tuft to dry.
I love Escoda products and They are my brush of choice in my studio as well as my travel brush.

I have several other travel brushes. This one is a very high quality Kolinsky sable watercolor brush, with a perfect point, holds water beautifully, and has no flaws. I bought two - size 2 and size 4 - and they're great for plein air painting and for use at home as well. Can't go wrong with these.

After some online research I asked for this brush (size 4) as a gift. I was looking forward to a good quality sable brush for watercolor sketching while on the road. On first use (with a W&N travel set and water) after washing out the gum, this brush was a major disappointment. There was absolutely no elasticity in the sable, one stroke across the paper left the brush flat and without point. It responded like a brush that was at the end of its lifespan--only I'd never used it before. I wish I had the experience of all the people with glowing reviews! Sadly, not so. On a final note, I marked the price of the product as overpriced only because I think paying for any brush in this condition is overpriced--I have not yet tried similar alternatives, so I'm not the best judge as to whether or not the brush is competitively priced.

I'm pretty rough on brushes, and need to travel with them often. The Escoda travel brushes stand up well, feel good in my hand, and perform well. The handle converting into a covering case, and making the brush very compact allows me to throw them into my travel box at a seconds notice without and worry about damage to the bristles.
